Does the trophy look like UCF 2017 trophy?

I know how it happened. It was political because Arkansas went 22-0, but only spent a single week as the #1 team. The voters made the mistake of putting Alabama at #1 and everyone knew it after the games were played.

That was a gift for Alabama.

Politics also kept Mississippi from winning the 1960 AP and UPI. They were anti-Black. 8-1 Minnesota was the choice over 9-0-1 Ole Miss.

Meh, not everything was politics. Minnesota was an established name. They had won 4 previous AP Trophies. In 1960, they held the same clout that Alabama and Oklahoma do now.

That one loss 1960 Minnesota had was in their bowl game, which didn't count against them back then. (AP didn't officially switch to giving the trophy after the bowl game until 1968, and UPI not until 1974.)

(Edit: Oops, my bad. Didn't realize that Minnesota was actually 8-2, with one regular season loss. Yeah, that's kind of sketchy with regards to not giving Ole Miss the trophy that year.)

There was a lot of anti-South bias in the news media and the sports media, back then. It still exist to some extent but nothing like it was back in the sixties. It still shows its' ugly head on occasion, now.

If the big ten had signed Tex and Okla to the conference rolls it would be views as a "bold" and "progressive" step. The SEC does it and it is because they are just money grubbers trying to squeeze every dollar out of the networks they can and because the have no concern about what they are doing to college football.

This is also a reason for the Southern teams having very little Heisman Winners/All Americans over the span of time. A very prominent and respected sports reporter of that era said that he believed that some of the brains of Southerners were in their feet?

Heavy, heavy bias against the South was just a way of life for these elitist pricks. Alabama finally beat a team that they respected, in the Rose Bowl, and it was a sea-change not only for Southern football, but for college football in its entirety.

No, that is how the national championship was decided that year.

In 1965, you had your chance and lost your bowl game. And unfortunately for you, that year it DID matter. You had your chance and couldn't pull it off.

Just because you think your team may have deserved it, doesn't mean that's how it works. 1966 Alabama probably deserved it, but that's not how shite worked back then.

Wallace won with the black vote in Alabama in 1982.

Wallace was a consummate politician. If he felt being racist was how to win, he was racist; if it was being progressive, he was progressive.

When people use the phrase “career politician,” George Wallace is your man.

Not to mention teams claiming them after being banned to play in the post-season.

This is the reason it is dumb to get upset arguing about claimed NC.

Well they lost their bowl game in ‘64 (which I am assuming as a UT fan you knew) so call it a mulligan.

Little bit of history. The AP and UPI both changed to moving their final polls until after the season. They did it in different years but both were in response to Alabama winning a title while losing their bowl game.
