It's cause you're in Alabama, probably, where there is no franchise. The NFL is not hurting for fan interest.

ahh, thanks.

Still think for numerous reasons 8 is ideal.

As fan with no team in it I think it’s awesome. If I’m a fan of program that’s in the mix every year I’d want the current format and only have to win two games.

An 8 game playoff gives us only 4 games on the opening weekend. We need an 8 game weekend!

Fair enough. I used to be a Packers fan when I was little because of Favre (had watched him beat Bama with Southern Miss back in 1990ish). But I just lost interest over time.

Literally does not exist as there are not enough cross data points between teams in different leagues. It's not the NFL where teams play enough of eachother and secondary opponents to get a firm grasp of who is who. It's not college basketball where teams play a 12 game out of conference schedule and cross polinate. It's just not reasonable to expect anybody to truly know how to compare Utah to Penn State outside of analytical analysis combined with your eyes.

This is college ball, man, just let the conference champs play in a tournament for all the marbles.

It's the simplest, most fair, objective, inclusive system.

As far as #1 seed vs G5 champ blowouts, I'd rather that than all the "byes" [people suggest all the time. And, who knows, maybe you'd get a Cinderella advancing.

Otherwise you get lost in analytics and math and shite, and throw in subjective selection bias, and you get the same old mess. I wish people would stop trying to make college ball so perfect and mathematical. It should be idealistic and sentimental. Leave the analytics to the pros, give the G5 champs a chance for once. Hell, hold the first round at the home field of the top seeds, use current arrangement for the semi-finals and championship game.

It would also make the conference championships meaningful again.

16 is way too much but it would be freaking awesome for the higher ranked teams to have a home game in their stadium.

I think if you have an 8 team playoff the second weekend in December... that would be enough...

Have 1 stipulation the committee gives us the top 12 teams and all conf champs inside that top 12 qualify. All spots not filled by champions are filled by highest ranking At large non champs I know there are 10 confs, however what’s the chance you will have more than 8 conf champs inside that 12. All spots n

For perspective
#?Conf champs inside top 12
2014- 6 - TCU & Baylor tie
2015- 5
2016 - 5
2017 - 6, UCF was #12
2017 - 6, UCF was #8

All years you had at least 2 At large spots available.

No. Do this instead:

Make G5s a separate FBS-2 division with it's own playoff. FBS-1 = 64 teams and FBS-2 = 66 teams. FBS-1, FBS-2 and FCS only play teams in their div. All FBS must play 9 conference (+CG) and 3 OOC games. No more schedules full of cupcakes. The season will be full of good games that'll ensure the true cream rises to the top-4 (or 6-8) Ticket sales, attendance, TV ratings and revenues will rise significantly.

Way too many games. Look at a calender and see when this would be played. Maybe if 2 games were cut off the end of the season and the finals were Jan 1. No way it will be allowed to be a 2 semester sport.

Keep in mind that there is a heck of a lot of recruiting going on at this time. Some of these guys actually have finals to get ready for etc.

So we gotta beat Wisconsin Oklahoma Clemson and Bama/Ohio?

frick. That. Only the bottom feeders want this that can't even break top 10.

Are you against at-large bids in all sports?

What about the NCAA basketball tournament? What about the college world series?

Why should the "only conference champions" rule apply to college football and no other sport?

First of all, none of what you wrote actually presents an argument against my main point:

An 8-team tournament of champions is the most simple, fair, objective, inclusive way to determine a CFB NC.

But to address your questions:

I have always hated 'wildcards'. I hate them in poker, I hate them in MLB and I hate them in the NFL. Wildcards are for children and runners up (ie, losers).

Because there are too many teams, and too few games, for any other system to be as simple, fair, objective and inclusive.

But honestly, the way March madness is structured, the regular season is pretty much meaningless. When was the last time anyone cared about a conference championship in college baseball? If no one cares, why have it?

i want ohio states bracket ! that would b fun, but sorry, 16 is entirely too many teams . i prefer the 4, but 8 is the absolute limit to keep the regular season meaningful. imho.
