I personally would like an 8 team playoff, but that bracket has some solid brand name power.

That's what they are going to have to do if they want to save the sport. The same 3 teams plus one more from a list of about 3 or 4 teams make the playoffs. There are only 6 or 7 teams that have a shot at the playoffs. It's boring if you're not one of those teams.

Do away with the conference championships, I presume?

ETA: The meaningless bowl system wouldn't allow this, but it would sure give everyone a puncher's chance to make it.

6 teams and #1 and #2 teams in the nation get a bye.

Add 2 more teams but don’t take any significance away from the regular season

No thanks. I'm not a fan of the playoff at all, much less expanding it. But going all the way to 16 teams? Way too many 3 and 4 loss teams in the top 16 at the end of the season.

Given that a playoff exists, ideally the number of teams in the playoff would be flexible, so that you could include all and only teams that have a legitimate argument for being the best team in the country. Some years, that's only 2 teams. Other years, it's 5. I doubt it's ever more than about 6 or so.

IMO it is what needs to happen. The current system is to flexible and allows monetary influence to override common sense.

That would be awesome. The first weekend by itself would be a college football paradise.

I don't understand why people who love watching college football wouldn't love a weekend with 8 games full of 16 teams trying to advance.

No - Regular season games like LSU/Bama & OSU/Penn State would mean nothing

I like it but I see the next step as being 8 team.
5 conference champs
top group of 5 team (have to include somehow)
then 2 top remaining teams

No regular season game would matter ever again.

Top 10 matchup? Who cares, you're both in regardless.

Not true.

1) conference championships still matter
2) seeding matters
3) 16 is few enough that LOT of major schools will be left out.
