This right here! What a fascinating observation. Some of these young men are leaving stable situations after getting bad advice from their “agent” or from their egos.

Maybe they want a raise. Maybe they want more playing time. Maybe the Coach yelled at them.

They have seen other players make it in the Portal and say, “I’m golden. With my skill set, people will be bidding on me.”

And when they don’t? Now, they don’t have a team to play for. What then?

4,500 Division I college football players entered the transfer portal

Take away NIL and it’s more like 100.

The longer they are in the portal, I assume their price goes down. Hope most of them get a good haircut.

Surely this will force changes in the near totally unregulated transfer rules. It's ridiculous.

Those left standing will end up at a G5 school. Also, they lose all the stability the P4 school gave them. Connections to fans and the old school itself. Many of the P4 schools help the players after they are done playing by finding jobs via connections (those who don’t go NFL) plus their degrees are messed up due to differences and they need more classes to make up for it.

I just think they get caught up in the portal hoopla and bad advice. There are even differences in P4 schools and same issues with degrees.

Some will make more money. But they have to create new friends and networks and if they struggle they don’t have a solid foundation as in their original school.

I know that we don’t have a large enough data set yet, but I’d really like to see how many made more money by going into the portal, how many stayed the same, and how many took a cut.

I’m also curious about success. Same thing- who had more success by going into the portal and who disappeared.

Additionally, who has more success and money when transferring- is it smaller school to bigger? Or p4 to p4?

Wouldn’t it be interesting to find out that the people who start out at G5 or FCS have more success and make more money by going into the portal than say, an SEC player bouncing from school to school?

Does that make sense?

Well, it's like your everyday job. You're more likely to get a larger raise going elsewhere compared to staying where you are.

Can you imagine the societal breakdown that would occur if 35% of the workforce nationwide just quit their jobs the same week? There would be pandemonium.

Could you provide a link where you're getting this information, or follow up on January 17th to see how many found a landing spot and how many ended their college career?

Irish,

The TV deal with ND was 22 million. They renegotiated and say its around 60 million, BUT thats all depends on them making the playoffs and championship, and thats a big if.

WTF do you come up with a billion dollars????????

They will play a bunch of cupcakes, not have the strength of schedule and not even make the playoffs. Stop watching Rudy on rewind

The 16th is just the deadline to enter. As long as they are at another school in time to enroll they are good.

Schools aint gonna beg and wait to see if a kid comes to them, they have one window to fill their roster, thats the hook the schools have in this lopsided mess.

Lotta kids gonna be "testing their worth" only to find out their slot in the current roster is gone.

This is what everyone wanted in the 2010's whether they want to admit or not. You always get what you ask for and then reap what you sow.

You just made that up. No actual college football fans wanted any of this. You just saw a few people on social media say this

Auburn had high player retention the last few years. If anything, retaining the players with on-paper talent but bad attitudes led to under-achieving.

They should put the names of all the portal players in a hopper and the schools put up money everytime they want to draw one, they get the player and the player gets the school's drawing fee.

Everyone abides by the results.

After a year or two of this I expect the portal will calm down a lot.

If you enter the portal you shouldn't be allowed to use the school youre currently at as a safety net to fall back on.

It should be up to the head coach. If you enter and he says okay, you're gone, then you're gone.

If he wants certain guys to have a way back in, it's up to him and the players should know where they stand on that before they go in.
