Could not find a good list, but always thought payouts were interesting way to rank bowls. (Bama potential of $40,000,000 shared is crazy money). Bowl money is shared (althought not 100% equally, Bama will get the most, etc.)
Sugar (Bama) $18,0000,0000 (Plus potential for $22,000,000 for Championship Game)
Orange (MSU) $18,000,000
ChickFila (Ole Miss) $3,967,500
---------------------------------
Citrus (Mizzou) 4,250,000
Outback (Auburn) 3,500,000
Texas (Arkie) $3,000,000 (Got lucky, TAMU and LSU wanted other bowls)
Music (LSU) $2,750,000 (Wanted this over the Texas Bowl)
TaxSlayer (UT) $2,750,000
Belk (UGA) $1,750,000 (Seems to be low for a 9-3 team)
Liberty (TAMU) $1,437,500 (Cost of not wanting to play Texas)
Independence (USC) $1,200,000
Birmingham (Florida) $1,100,000

Old list.
Orange is $27.5 million and Peach is $22 million this year. Liberty is also up to about #2.75 million after dumping C-USA for the Big 12.

Lucky?...As soon as Arkansas vs. Texas was a possibility LSU and aTm had no say in it.

I am not sure that is correct data, but here is some more about playoff/contract bowls. This makes it appear MSU is bringing in the largest payday to the SEC.
SEC
$50 million base
$6 million for Alabama (Sugar Bowl – CFP semifinal)
$4 million for Ole Miss (Peach Bowl)
$27.5 million for Mississippi State (Orange Bowl)
Total: $87.5 million
An expense payment of $2 million will be provided for each team for each game (semifinal, national championship, Cotton, Fiesta and Peach Bowl), paid to the conference.

Ole Miss is playing in the peach bowl. Don't know what the payout is, but I'd imagine it's in the 20 mil range.

These numbers are fricked. Why would the conferences agree to take less money for a playoff?

Bama is the conference breadwinner once again.

Actually state is the breadwinner this year. Bama gets 6 mil, OM gets 4, state is bringing 27.5 mil
The sugar pays out 40 mil when it's a contract bowl and not hosting a playoff, but since it's a playoff this year it only pays 6 mil. Orange pays 27.5 per team due to it being a contract bowl
The OPs numbers aren't correct, those are BCS era payouts

Why does that make any sense, though?
Why does the playoff only get 5 mil with nothing extra for the championship? That number seems unreasonably low considering that one of the reasons for the playoff is the extra revenue generation.

Dawgs got the shaft...sorry pups.

You're pretty wrong here.

You're probably right. Otherwise Mich St. Would have cried foul for being inexplicably dropped below state when neither team played. Cotton bowl must pay just as much.
