First Gee says Alvarez called Bielema a thug:
and so does Jeff Long
quote:
@DanWolken: Wow. Gordon Gee also said that Barry Alvarez thought Bret Bielema was "a thug." Unreal. LINK ]
Bielema responds:

It's a start from Mr. Gee. Will take his apology and phone call soon. #1-0
and so does Jeff Long
quote:
“As a member of the higher education community, a director of athletics and a native of Ohio, I am deeply troubled by the unfounded and slanderous remarks the President of the state’s flagship institution, Dr. E. Gordon Gee, made about Coach Bret Bielema. While I recognize Dr. Gee has issued an apology stating regret for his comments, it does not erase the unwarranted attack on Bret’s character. It is widely known Coach Bielema placed an emphasis on academics, character development and community outreach while serving at the University of Wisconsin. His 2010 and 2011 football teams won the Wisconsin Athletic Department’s community service and Champs Life Skills awards. Bret also had 131 academic all-conference selections in seven seasons and his team’s APR figures climbed each year with a most recent multiyear rate of 975 and a final single year rate of 1000. In his time here, Bret has demonstrated the qualities we sought when we brought him to the University of Arkansas and has supported our football student-athletes as reflected in one of our highest spring GPAs.”

If so, my opinion of Bielema as a hire for Arky went up 10 fold.

Is Gordon Gee dying and just off-loading all the vitriol he can muster?

Fisrt, Alvarez is an idiot if he said that. He brought Bielema in and handed the program over to him willingly and Bielema won more than him.
Second, Gee's national perception should take a hit with all this stuff coming out. He's running his mouth like Lane Kiffin. A college president should be above that.

I just can't figure out why he is showing his arse so bad all of a sudden. He has said some dumb things before, but I just chalked it up to a guy who has been a college president/chancellor for over 20 years making an occasional idiot comment as humans are wont to do.

I'm guessing he's sick of hearing about how great the SEC is all offseason and this is his way of acting out (like a child).

Just heard the actual audio where he said it. I bet Alvarez is pleased with that.

I mean the SEC just gets to sit around and watch all the other conferences demolish themselves at this point. It's kind of pathetic

He may be gone soon. Trustees are finally coming out criticizing and saying what he did was an embarrassment.

Yeah, but this clown is unloading on Louisville, Notre Dame, his own commissioner, etc.... Maybe he has dementia?
