Our highest ranked recruit almost certainly doesn't make it to campus, and our second highest recruit might be a grade risk. We definitely need to pick up some 4*s, but we're clearly damaged goods right now regardless of who's coaching

Guarantee Les Miles would have gotten good recruits. None of these recruits will have a bowl ban they have to do experience.

Not sure uttering the name of Les Miles furthers your argument....

Henry, Georgia has just one player from California and he's listed as a 215-pound defensive lineman. I think I saw just one player from west of the Mississippi on the Georgia roster. They are heavy on players from their home state and the southeast. I'm not going to compare our recruiting efforts to Alabama's. Pretty much nobody can. That would be ridiculous.

I don't mean we should only sign players who love Ole Miss. But let's at least attempt to get players who once in Oxford will have self pride, pride for their school and their team. Ones that don't just see OM as a waypoint and nothing more. That was my main point. There are tons of 3 star athletes in the NFL. We may indeed be in position to where we have to crawl a little before we walk and run. We certainly need to land our state's best players or at least split them with that other bunch. I'll certainly concede that.

If you and Dores are only going to be satisfied with 9 or 10 wins a year then you are in for a large dose of disappointment and not much else.

Georgia could field a top 5 team with only players from Georgia every year even if Ole miss got every recruit from Mississippi it would still struggle. We just don’t have the population.

We’ve never had a 10 win regular season. Merely trying to be good got us a 5 year NCAA probe

Learn from our mistakes and what got us caught. Don't do that again and keep paying recruits. frick playing by the rules. It will never get us anywhere because you have assholes like Mullen and other coaches saying we are racists.

The flip side is that we get caught blatantly cheating again because a lot of our boosters are fricking idiots, we get put on the repeat offender list, and our football program gets completely nuked and dips to below Sun Belt levels, losing the school countless millions of dollars and the entirety of the fan support levels we've built up since Orgeron. This scenario is as or more likely than us making it back to the Sugar Bowl by New Year's Day 2021

Disagree. Wait until we are off probation, then start the payments up again. That will keep us off the repeat offenders list.

At this point, we are already mediocre and will always be mediocre unless we do something. If that means risking the repeat offender status, I'm good with it.

Boosters? The three biggest idiots were Tunsil, Freeze, and Barney. None of them were boosters.

Those were the three scalps the NCAA wanted the most, yes, but it’s not like a number of boosters weren’t disassociated for providing impermissible benefits. And if the NCAA uses the Billy Brewer era and older as a basis for claiming we have have a history of not playing by the rules, we’d be outright fricked to get caught again before like 2040

This is the SEC and every single school, except maybe Vandy, is paying players. You think that Kirby walked into UGA and started competing with Saban for 5*’s all because of his bubbly personality? There are some guys that have been with some of these programs that we could bring in, block out the goober good old boy network (GGOB) and start something special. Freeze did it wrong. He wanted to be the center of attention and didn’t reign in the GGOB. In fact he brought them front and center. Going so far as letting them into the Manning Center.

Obviously everyone is paying players. Hell, we're still paying players, but we can't really play hardball right now because of the current predicament

Was it the Patel family?

Not sure about him but the owner of Funky’s was brought up in the NCAA investigation. Even after the NCAA had cautioned Olé Miss he was still at the Manning Center on the reg.

The only chance Ole Miss has to keep the NCAA from calling every time they start winning consistently is for Rebel Rags to win their lawsuit against thoe who claim to have received free gear from them.

It will take a huge win for Rebel Rags to get the NCAA of our backs. Which would also mean a settlement with the NCAA and Ole miss for the 16 million the NCAA took from Ole Miss with their 5 plus year investigation that also deterred the recruiting during the last 3 years.

All the teams in the SEC pay players. The only schools that get in trouble are the schools who get investigated. The only schools that get investigated are the ones the sec tells the NCAA to look at. Look how long it took and what circumstances that transpired in order for Ole Miss to get hammered. Mullen had to step in and create the whole free gear scheme. The Rebel Rags lawsuit should uncover some facts about how, why and when the ncaa changed the rule to interview players. We may find out that the ncaa and Mullen colluded in order to find enough impermissible benefits in order to justify dropping the hammer on Ole Miss. If this is the case the NCAA will probably be closer to the death penalty than Ole Miss.

It doesn’t look good at the high star kids.....maybe Dean due to his brother but he wants to go where there is some good LBers to learn under.
