Still in the fox hole.

But if he does leave it is in our best interest to spin this to make it all about the money that we were just not willing to pay kiffin. That implies that we made decision to let kiffin go and not that he left us.

If the story is, we offered Kiffin everything LSU/Florida offered him and he still left then very bad optics for rebel nation.

F that, if we offered the same numbers that lsu and Florida are alleged to be throwing around that’s a great look for us In drawing top coaches and talent. It shows we can spend with anyone

Agreed. It shows we’re committed to winning. It would be different if this was an 8 win team. We’re one quarter away from being undefeated(knock on wood) and have shown we can compete with top programs in coach and player support.

There’s a reason why Sumrall wants to come here.

Then why did he leave? asking for a friend who has no dog in the fight.

To validate your suggested spin we would need to spend the same or more money as LSU for our next coach. That might work but what other coach would be worth that?

I'd feel so dirty if we still have Lane after Friday.

I can't reconcile with Lane. I tried but at this point there's just a river of bullshite I can't wade through with that person.

LSU/Florida can have his mouth herpes.

You are conflating two separate issues.

I think it is common knowledge that we have real money for a good coach.

The optics are bad if lane leaves when the same money was on the table and he was playoff bound. We can’t fire him so the best spin would be that he just wasn’t worth the Kirby level money.

Again implies that we (not Lane) made the decision.

Better than the narrative that everything was equivalent financially, he was playoff bound and he left anyway.

Like TM said earlier (and Lane said initially), this isn’t about money. This is about ego, a new experience and validation with an easier path to a championship. The ESPN piece was simply fluff. He’s the same guy he always has been and when Bama, Texas or a prime NFL job open up he and Sexton will start flirting again. We have proven that we we are committed financially and structurally with Keith/Boyce/Grove collective and we will be fine..with fine being the top half of the SEC with a run every 3-5 yrs.

Most of that may be correct and a lot of that is speculation but none of that addresses the issue of program perception.

If he leaves then it would be in our interest if the narrative was that we made the final decision not him.

Coaches of upper tier SEC teams do not leave, they either retire or get shown the door with one respectable exception going to the NFL.

Why’d he leave if money wasn’t the issue? Money is only part of the overall brand. As much as it pains me to admit this, LSU and UF do offer bigger stages for the performance that is game day due to larger stadiums. They are more valuable brands. LSU, UF, and OM were all on the list of top 25 most valuable college football programs published by The Athletic earlier this year. OM was a big enough stage for him when he came, but it may not be anymore. Does that mean we have to outspend or match LSU on our next coach if he leaves? No, KC has made it clear through these negotiations OM is willing to pay someone for the results they have achieved.

To the right coach, what has lost its shine to Kiffin is a dream come true for them.

Sumrall would do very very well at Ole Miss. But Auburn seems to want him too. Could be an interesting situation.

I hear you but Alabama may really lose DeBoer to Penn State. Oklahoma lost Riley. Notre Dame lost Kelly. I believe Debo may move on from Clemson soon as well. It's not a sign of being a stepping stone. It's situational.

Kiffin is a dick and that is his situation. Doesn't mean we are a stepping stone program. But maybe some of the smaller nicer stadium guys need to take note that the huge cathedral stadiums still have a pull. We really need a bigger one. Just push us to 70k true capacity. We are essentially filling the Vaught to that anyway in big games.

LSU insider guy on local radio is saying he's been told Golding would go to LSU with Kiffin. Golding is from Hammond after all.

Basically every single Ole Miss insider has said Pete is pissed at Lane for how this has played out and he's staying in Oxford no matter what.

Pete's wife and SIL are both in Oxford and they're Ole Miss alums. It would surprise everyone if he left with Lane.

Who is this LSU insider guy? Pete could easily be telling us what we want to hear, but he’s being paid handsomely on a contract that is not industry standard, so I’m not sure that’s the case.

LSU fans seem to think he’s not in the know or is a mouthpiece. But he was also right on the BK situation.

Yeah, hopefully he doesn't know what he's talking about anyway.
