OXFORD EXXON PODCAST 5-31-18

Neal & Jeffery seem like they think Luke is doing a really good job and that he will make some changes to the staff after this year. "he get's an A maybe even an A+" They unanimously think McGriff is gone after this year and probably/maybe Longo too. Neal said Freeze would have probably gone 4-8 this year. I usually respect what Neal has to say but Jeffrey is the most obnoxious person I've ever listened to on a podcast.
What direction would yall want to go if we made changes and any names you think we could get?
They really don't like Freeze

Fire Luke, Vitter, & Bjork and hire an actual coach, for 3-4 fricking million I don't care if we are bowl banned we can get someone better than Luke

Then they are idiots. Luke is a mediocre line coach who is in over his head. I also doubt any quality assistants are going to come to Ole Miss knowing Luke probably won't make it beyond a few years.

That’s what I want too but it doesn’t look like that’s what’s gunna happen. Maybe he can be like a les miles. I can’t just turn off my love for ole miss football and hope we lose so we get a real coach.

You don't have to hope that we lose. It's inevitable. Once the 2016 class bolts (the sole reason that last year's team went 6-6) and unless something changes with the 2019 recruiting class; we will lose, alot.

I think the praise for Luke was strictly based on keeping the team somewhat focused.
Of course the assistants are on the hot seat, they were Freeze’s guys and will take
the fall before Luke. I actually think Longo’s offense looked a hell of a lot better
with Ta’amu instead of Patterson . Defensively, can we be any worse ?

Longo will probably be a mid-major HC soon.

Neal said Freeze would have probably gone 4-8 this year.

Not sure about that.
Freeze lost to Arkansas a couple times with vastly superior talent.

He said the players hated Freeze and wouldn’t of played for him. I thought it was hyperbolic myself.
Posted on 6/1/18 at 8:32 am to Quicksilver
Maybe he’ll come back to us.
Posted on 6/1/18 at 8:33 am to Blaeke
I don’t think it’s going to be that bad he’s gunna float around .500 and will be your coach for a very long 5 years.
Posted on 6/1/18 at 9:00 am to WithaRebelYell
As long as we don't lose the partyyyy, right? Woo.
Posted on 6/1/18 at 9:10 am to Blaeke
What’s really sad is our program isn’t even close to how bad it was in 2012 and yet I’m not nearly as optimistic.
Posted on 6/1/18 at 10:16 am to WithaRebelYell
Yeah, I think that's a line floated by every beat writer of every team after they fire a coach. I think Freeze would've done no better than Luke last season however. This is the man that lost to Memphis with a much better team.

Lets be honest. Freeze didn't have it all figured out either. He did grow from year to year and improved the program to a point.
As far as ole Miss becoming a top tier football team in the sec, what most are unwilling to admit is this. the NCAA will come calling every time Ole Miss appears to be getting close to rattling the big boys' cages.
There is an unspoken hierarchy in the SEC. It's dominated by the schools with the most financial clout. Alabama runs the SEC and the rest of the member schools are supposed to do as they are told.
If any school is going to be able to upset the apple cart it will be aTm. but aTm isn't an upstart. They have plenty of deep pockets and will be under close observation by the sec office. Don't be surprised by an NCAA investigation at aTm directed at the program under the previous coach, they will turn up some dirt on aTm and have them slapped back down to reality.
Alabama, Florida, Auburn and LSU. Georgia is making a push and does have some money, but aTm is the one that will be pushing the main offices buttons by 2019.
LSU has some fiscal issues to address and Tennessee is still paying for Fulmer's actions in the past.
Mullen has been kissing the SEC office's arse and sucking the NCAA's dick for so long, he may have leveraged some immunity, but he is now having to recruit in Florida with upstarts USF, UCF, and that little school where Kiffen is coaching. Plus he has to deal with FSU and Miami. So what seemed to be a great job 10 years ago, now has changed into a neighborhood backyard brawl in recruiting. It won't matter if they can match benefits if Mullen isn't well liked by the student athletes he is recruiting.
As far as Luke is concerned, the head coach is the CEO. The head coach just has to be smart enough to hire and surround himself with great assets. He also has to be well liked by those donors that matter and it doesn't hurt that he believes in what he is selling to recruits...that Ole Miss is a great school and that's why he loves it.
Did anyone see Coach Luke and the family in the stands in Hoover? Don't hate the man for loving Ole Miss. He's living his dream.

He took the program to places we haven't seen in 50 years.

Fulmer's actions? I live in TN everyone knows they pushed him out too soon and have paid for it ever since.

Dude being the third best school in Florida you could still field a great team with only Florida players.

I agree completely but he loves Ole Miss because he grew up around it not just because "its a great school"

Were you alive during the last half of the 2016 season?

They love a coach who got beat by a shite Cal and Arkansas team as well as got annihilated by Bama and Auburn so apparently they can love anyone
