I was thinking we should do just the opposite.

We really need to lower our NIL budget for basketball and spend the difference on baseball.

Agreed. Bring good at baseball is fun, but from a true national perspective being good at basketball is far more important

I'd rather have a baseball program competing for the national championship every year, instead of a perennial bubble basketball team.

I totally disagree. Just from the standpoint of it being almost impossible. There are something like 380 college basketball programs vying for the Tournament of 64 every year. And seemingly every year a team you've never heard of makes the Final Four.
And now even the SEC is stacked. It's impossible to stand out.
In baseball we are already Top 5 in recruiting, facilities, and fan support. We are right there. With the right NIL support we should be in Omaha every year.
Climbing that mountain in basketball would take literally 10x the money that would make us an annual national contender in baseball. We're already at the bottom of the Hillary Step. And basketball is maybe at Base Camp. Or probably somewhere still in Nepal trying to get our permits lined up.
It's a no brainer that we can make baseball work for us. We already have the leverage.

Not to mention that we are the SEC team with the historically worst basketball program. We have more losses and less wins than everybody else. Not to mention that on average we have higher attendance for baseball than we do for basketball.

Yeah all true. No argument about those facts. I suppose I was just thinking I’d rather us be good in basketball than baseball. It’s so much more entertaining.

Some folks like basketball better than baseball - not me. Basketball is a distant third for me, with football first followed by baseball. Hard to beat a nice day in Swayze.

I prefer baseball simply because there are 4 games a week to watch vs 2 games for basketball.

Being honest there is maybe 15 schools in the country that give a shite about baseball. People here love it because in the 2000s we sucked at football and basketball. Baseball was the only sport we had any postseason hope. March madness is a way bigger deal than the college World Series. Also from what I’ve heard Bianco hates dealing with NIL. He’s not gonna want someone on the team that’s just here for NIL.

I love it because a game at Swayze when the weather is nice on a sunny Spring day beats just about any atmosphere anywhere. It's even better when the baseball team is good. We can be elite at baseball or strive to be just another average basketball program. I prefer the former.

The ceiling in baseball - National Champions.
The ceiling in basketball - making the NCAA tourney every now and then and maybe making the field of 32.
Baseball brings in more fans (sells more tickets) and can actually generate revenue.

Not saying you are wrong because I haven't researched it and you probably have, however, I don't see why this couldn't be reversed through success. As was stated earlier in this thread, college basketball is a much bigger deal nationally than college baseball. Hell, the Road to the Final Four dominates a major network for weeks, while the baseball tournament championship never sees the major network light of day even for one game.
That said, I completely understand the points being made about how OM emphasizing basketball over baseball might would be a foolhardy endeavor. Maybe it's just not something we can logically do and succeed at over a prolonged period. The state almost certainly produces more high end high school baseball players.

I did not expect us to be a top twenty team after 11 games. Someone please post the Bianco D.E.N.N.I.S. System meme, because i feel like i am watching this team Demonstrating Value right now and I am curious as to when they will pull the rug out.

I had no clue someone had created one, but dammit, we certainly need one, so I whipped this up real quick.

Awesome work. Hilarious how fitting that is.

Most college sports lose money. Up until a couple of years ago our baseball team actually turned a profit. Basketball at Ole Miss never makes a profit. Baseball is the better investment and is a sport that we can profit in easier than basketball.

FYI: the baseball game tomorrow is canceled on the threat of inclement weather.

Murray State was winning 7-5 bottom 9th. We had bases loaded with 2 outs and we got a hit to score 2 and tie the game. Going to extras. Utermark has 2 solo homers.
