Our defense is not good and our pass protection is not good.

I don't have a loser mentality. And I'm not crippled. I'm saying we go something like 10-3 this year. Which would equal to our best year in the last 60 years. And you think that's being a crippled loser? That's actually being optimistic and up beat

This ain’t your Daddy’s Ole Miss

We’re paying Kiffin 2 million less than Saban. We should expect to beat teams we have more talent than 9 times out of 10. Winning 11 games is attainable and expected this season.

You really think we have more talent than Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M?

Where have our recruiting classes ranked in the SEC the past 4 or 5 years? We might have play above our heads some. Which is what I expect. But we don't have more talent than those teams.

ETA: I just looked it up. In 2023 we finished 10th in the conference. In 2022 we finished 12th.

You expect to finish 2nd in the conference when we recruit about 10th in the conference on average. How?

When Texas and OU get here it will be worse. The bigger schools will start burying us with their NIL money. Out of the 16 schools in the conference next year we will be ranked 15th in size. Of the 11 states represented we will be 11th in population. And have the 11th largest economy. Plus we will split our meager resources with another conference team.

Where do you think we are gonna get the talent to win the conference? Florida? Texas? Georgia? Mississippi?

This is a game of math. We have the heart. But we don't have the numbers.

I agree with the first sentence but disagree with the second. Kiffin has been very good against teams we "should" beat, with the exception of a few games here and there. But here's the thing: there's no expectation of Ole Miss beating Auburn on the Plains in a night game. It's never happened before.

As for the second sentence, we've never won 11 games in a single season in school history. It has never been and never will be the expectation. That doesn't mean we can't or won't do it, however.

LSU has beaten us 6 out of the last 8, and 16 of the last 22. They beat us more than 70% of the time because they have more talent than we do.

That's because they recruit from a larger state that doesn't have to split its talent between two SEC schools. That's why they regularly go to Atlanta and have won three National Championships in the past 20 years.

It's because they have more talent.

It doesn't mean they win every match-up. It just means they will win more than they lose. And it means that over time if we consistently recruit at a level of 6th to 12th in the conference, then that's where we will consistently finish.

It doesn't mean we have better years and worse years. Like Freeze last 5-7 campaign after several good recruiting classes.

But in the end it's about the numbers.

Saban invigorated the Tiger program and I'm not certain it will fall dormant again.

No this is a much better team than the ones I grew up watching with my dad in the 70s and 80s. We were juat above Vanderbilt.

We have been basically even with Miss State head to head over the last... 30 years? 40 years?

On the field, yes, but we've had some much better seasons than they have (2003, 2015, 2021, etc.).

Since 1980, the Egg Bowl is 23-20 Rebs. Since 1990, it's 17-16 Dawgs. Since 2000, it's 12-11 Rebs. Since 2010, it's 7-6 Dawgs.

The other team has to win for it to be a rivalry. Not sure what else there is to say about that.

Did you look up highschool recruiting or highschool and transfers? The game has changed and Lane likes the portal.

This is the thing with being a portal heavy team: sometimes it works (2021) and others it doesn't (2022).

The jury is still out on 2023.

The difference is that our team is seemingly improving as the season goes which is opposite from last year. We are improving on the OL, defense, and rushing. Our playcalling is a head-scratcher sometimes, which cost us the Alabama game, but overall, we've done really really well this year.

Under Kiffin, we are 2-2 (50%). So Kiffin is keeping up with LSU for sure.

By using the transfer portal and raiding G5 team’s for players like Tre Harris and Caden Preiskorn. And always having a top QB which is Kiffin’s bread and butter.

I agree.

If we can play offense like we did against LSU and defense like we did against the Hawgs then we can maybe make the Sugar Bowl!

Well, once again we have been presented an opportunity to slam the door on Mississippi state. Their program is spiraling downward and they are left in an impossible position of either firing a first year head coach which will turn prospective coaches off or keeping him and letting him run the program into the ground. Will we finally capitalize and shut the door on them? I don’t know, but I feel a lot more confident than I ever have about it. As far as population, I wouldn’t read too much into that this state produces a plethora of talent and is more than enough to field a great team every year as long as we consistently win in recruiting. Yes, Louisiana high school football is talent rich, but there’s another side to that too. Look at Arkansas for example. Their high school football talent is bad and the reason why they struggle even though they basically own the state. Same thing with Kentucky. It’s not all doom and gloom and I would not worry about the NIL situation. Walker Jones is a fantastic CEO for that, and we have programs you would not expect looking to him for guidance and trying to replicate everything he does. We could easily enter the golden era of ole miss football again if we just slam the door on state. Their fans know it, and so does everyone sitting in their office in the Manning Center right now.

A little bit of bad news, though. Watkins initially thought he could play through the pain and tough it out but it’s getting clearer and clearer each day that’s just not the case. He can barely even more his hand right now. Z Franklin better show out. All I hear about is how he’s incredible in practice blah blah blah. It’s time for him to do that in an actual jersey
