Damn it. I hate him as a coach but every time Matt Luke talks it's hard for me to dislike him. He is a good dude.

What were those composite rankings in 2017 and 2018? We lost a massive amount of talent and Morris had a solid recruiting class this past off-season

2017
Ole Miss 18th
Arkansas 22nd

2018
Ole Miss 22nd
Arkansas 27th

So not a big difference either year.

I'm not going to jump on here and act like we are something we aren't just because we got a win, but this little bit of success is killing ol' HJJ and some of his cronies.

Do it against Auburn or LSU and I will come around. Beating an Arkansas team that almost lost to Portland State the week after losing to Memphis isn't any reason to be excited just yet.

No, we’re not anything yet. I actually agree with Henry that I don’t think Luke is the right guy. But to act like we won that game strictly because we had superior talent and that Chad Morris would do better with our team probably isn’t true.

No, that's stupid.

Those guys deserved that win, and I'm excited for them. Still a long way to go and a lot to prove. Again, we'll see.

FWIW i never said I think Luke is the right guy. Just pointed out I'm glad we didn't hire Morris either.

Honestly I think if we had play Memphis later in the year and had Corral got the first start of the year out of the way we would beat Memphis. Offense had a lot of success in the 2nd half against Memphis I think if it wasn’t for the safety we might have won. This defense isn’t special but it is probably an average SEC defense. Get Braylon Sanders healthy and this offense could be ok going forward. I don’t think the OLine is very good but they played well in the 2nd half. If we can beat Cal that’s 4 wins and Vandy doesn’t look very good this year. 5 wins is very possible and just have to win one more for a bowl game. Corral has a little Swag in him and I think he’s gonna be at least as good as Ta’amu was for us. This team feels like 4-8 or 5-7 is probably what it’s gonna be this year. Luke isn’t getting fired now and will probably get at least another year. Luke as Ole Miss head coach all depends on Corral.

Dammit get off the Luke train! Let me guess you want him to get an extension! Sorry too easy. Obviously playing.

I agree, they held them to under 70 yards rushing without our defensive leader, and the offense took a big step. I get Arkansas isn’t a great gauge but the fact that we were able to produce on offense if a huge step. Idc if it was again a middle school team, they improved. With a team this young and inexperienced, progress like that in one week is a great sign and I couldn’t be happier for those guys

It is a testiment to coaching. The defense is night and day. Talent wise it isn't a top half defense. But compared to last year its not even close. Guys aren't missing tackles nearly as much, teams are having to earn yards, defense actually plays like the players get along. Communication across the board, lined up correctly for plays. Even on the plays we get beat there is always someone there.

Arkansas had a lot of motion and eye candy and for the first time in years it looked like our entire defense knew who they were supposed to be covering.

Actually, I felt sort of weird a times last night about the defense. The term "gashed" we used over and over last year flashed in my head a few times. We had trouble getting off the field on third and long (sometimes really long) too much and then that bizarre play before half could have bitten us but we dodged that. I wanted to think, well, it's Arkansas but I was reminded Portland State held them to 20. Yeah, apples and oranges I know, but still. Hope we get Momo back soon and maybe take him off the kickoff team?

^^^ And SELA's game with Bethune-Cookman was cancelled due to Doria. SELA is ranked in the FCS poll and beat the stew out of previously ranked Jacksonville State (we are familiar with them I know) in week one. So we can't just completely rely on merely showing up. The next two weeks will be interesting before we go to Alabama. Screw that game. Just try to get better and don't get hurt.

Cal defense is solid but their Offense isn’t any better than Arkansas or Memphis. They will be the best defense we face so far this season. The game probably comes down to our offensive line and Corral.

As much as I want Luke gone, it must be put on hold while he’s winning.
