I posted a Fire Matt Luke thread earlier this year.

Matt Luke - I was wrong about you. You kept this team playing late into the season and this win tonight can be partially accredited to your leadership abilities. Enjoy this win tonight ad enjoy this memory for the rest of your life.

Idk if Luke is the best candidate for the job, and if a better candidate comes along, then by all means, hire the better candidate. However, I don't know if there is a better candidate for the job that I have heard of.

We shall see friends, we shall see. Congrats Matt, and congrats on a great win Rebels.

Edit - I apologize. I was caught up in the heat of the win last night and did not fully think this post through. I still think Luke should be considered, but he definitely isn't the front runner. Wishing Bjork the best of luck with the coaching search. I'm starting to like Taggert more and more if he could bring his staff.

IF we hire Luke, we need to give him a blank check on a new OC

If Luke was a CEO type coach, he might not be too bad. The players I've talked to all love him. He would definitely need new coordinators though

The players love him. We're all one with Luke. We could be a dysfunctional locker room with big ego's. Not here. We all hate State.

We barely scraped by a state team who lost their starting qb/ leading rusher even with around 30 turnovers and now Luke should be given the job. Jesus this is why we never can get ahead

That's why I clearly indicated that Luke may not be the best candidate for the job. However, after a win in the Egg Bowl in which we were a 14 point dog, his name is firmly in the mix.

Idk what the conditions of the game were. We've been playing without our starting QB for half of the season, and they lost theirs for one game. Injuries happen, and Luke's team has dealt pretty well with those injuries.

Take a second. Put the Kool-Aid down for a moment.

1) A.J. Brown is a freak athlete. Subtract AJ from the games this year and what do you have? Wasn’t he out or injured against Alabama? How’d that go? I know it’s Bama, but 66-3.

2) The Cal loss was bad. Arkansas supernova? Auburn pretty much curbstomped us. A&M was very winnable.

3) Our culture on defense seems to be “let up once we get a 10+ point lead.” I may be wrong there, but it feels that way to me. If Luke stays there needs to be some major adjustments to the program. Our players are about as undisciplined as they come.

As much as I want to get behind Luke, and the fact he got us to .500 in the regular season... I have to agree with some others here and say nay. Honestly I’m neutral. I just don’t really care I guess with what we’re looking at next year. It sounds like any major coaches out there don’t want to touch this program with a 10 ft pole. If we weren’t looking at getting trainfricked by the NCAA, I’d say no way in hell. If we truly have no options on the table other than Luke, and to get us through sanctions... sure.

Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Luke needs to go to the mid-major level if he wants to be a head coach. You don't hire someone learning on the job in the SEC

Are you people blind or just stupid? That was a horribly coached game. He had the team ready to play but that’s it.

There is a reason that Mississippi State fans want us to hire him permanently.

Agree. Once we got rid of Luke as oline coach, our yds per rush went up. We also have a higher completion percentage even though we are playing Patterson and the guy who is not as good as Patterson, which makes me wonder why all the Longo hate. Our D really sucks and we were a broken ankle away from being blown out by State. Not being ready for an onside kick and calling that time out w/ 15 seconds to save State were real head scratchers that even the c team announcers noticed.

He can’t keep the team disciplined and makes stupid decisions at times.

I think Matt will be taking the place of Patterson's brother.

I wouldn't mind keeping Matt on in a position like that, but I can't imagine he would be ok with it

What if he was assistant to the AD or something. I could get behind that. I'm thankful for the work he has put in.

With as many turnovers as State had that led to a short field and the offensive weapons Ole Miss has, just a decent coach should have won the game 40+ to 13. State pretty much did everything they could, from getting their star QB hurt, to coughing the ball up like crazy, and Luke still nearly lost the game.

He may be good for keeping the ship above water if the sanctions are harsh, but the guy is not at this time a very good coach.

I think every single turnover would go in the "forced" category. I also don't think there are very many at all who want to see Luke retained.
