I would love to go to Atlanta and go to the playoffs. I think it would do a lot for the school and the program.

But the main thing I want is a team that is competitive. Doesn't get blown out. And has a chance to beat anyone at any time. I remember walking into VHS over the years when LSU or AL or AU was in town.....and I absolutely KNEW we were gonna lose. And that we would probably get blown out.

I don't want to go there again. I want to believe we can win every single game, even if it's in Ttown or Baton Rogue or wherever.

That's my hope for our program. I don't think that's too much or too little to ask.

Just realistic. The fan base, right or wrong, has an expectation of playoff or bust this year with this team. If/when that busts, the Kiffin to Florida rumors will kick into overdrive and a lot of the fans will move on from this year's team.

Miserable or not, it's a realistic view of the situation.

It's a weird and unfortunate dynamic for sure. I've said on this board many times, I can feel great about anything 8-4 or better. However, that would be a bummer this year with the expectations and the money invested. It is what it is.

No, it sounds like Auburn. I hope we are above that. I want to be nothing like that eagle cult.

frick that.
I don’t want to just be competitive. That’s some Matt Luke level bullshite. I want to win. Having the “just be competitive” mindset is what led to us being average at best for 40-50 years after Vaught. And it’s the reason State is in the situation they are in.

I really started to like Kiffin when we lost to Alabama in his first year and he said in his press conference after “yeah the fans clapping for us coming off the field, sure we appreciate it but that’s not what I or any of these players want. We didn’t come here just to put up a good fight and be competitive. We came to win”

And 5 years later and paying him $9 million with a record home crowd and a $ 20 million + roster and the best group of coaches the programs ever had … we lose to fricking Kentucky .

I’m a fan. Reporter at the end stole words out of my mouth about if he wanted to coach. This guy is it.

I have been perusing trant this afternoon and have noticed all the new Lane to Florida drama. I feel compelled to vent here amongst fellow fans.

No matter what happens I just hope that we show some dignity in the newest Lane sweepstakes. From the date of his hire the conventional wisdom was that Lane was most likely never going to be marriage material for us. Lane clearly understands that he is the hot girl in our relationship and acts accordingly: (i) by "innocently" flirting with others through silence (last one Auburn); and (ii) most importantly, based on the terms of his contract (which has no meaningful buyout protection for us).

I'm not mad about any of this - it is what it is. Likewise, I am grateful for the successes we have had with him at the helm and I hope he stays.

With that being said do we have act like the beta boyfriend in this drama?

The point here is that there is simply no reason anyone should be defending Lane or making lame excuses for why Lane wont leave us on the trant or anywhere else. The alpha boyfriend would let Lane speak for herself regarding this drama and just otherwise troll away. No matter what happens we maintain our dignity in SEC nation, which is way more important in the long term and actually, I think, improves our prospects to attract a nice replacement coach, if necessary.

No girl and most especially the hot girl is going to respect or respond to the pandering beta boyfriend. Actually, treating the hot girlfriend badly will increase your chances of keeping her. So I say no more clapping after losses to Alabama.

Landmass is not to be harmed.

Stop worrying about whether or not Lane is leaving.

“Lane to [insert big program struggling]” is just a trendy thing people do thinking they’re clever and funny. If he goes then he goes….frick it. The problem is the fan base shitting themselves every time some dumb redneck with a keyboard starts a rumor.

I can honestly say I no longer worry about it. I did the first 2-3 years but not anymore.

Yeah worrying about it doesn’t do anything. At some point he is going to leave. He has stayed for 5 years and elevated our program big time. If/when he leaves, I won’t be upset because if all the good he has done for our program. The only way I would hate him is if he went to his new job and shite on us somehow

We have a top-tier NIL program and are paying our top 3 coaches top 10 salaries. He's absolutely done a great job here.

ETA: obviously with a huge help from Walker Jones and Keith Carter.

5 games thru, Tre Harris leads the nation with 804 receiving yards and 5 TDs with the next closest receiver in terms of yardage being 647 (6 TDs) at TCU. Say what you want about who we have played, Tre is on pace to break 1500 yards receiving / 10 TD season. Got to keep this guy healthy.

Betting him at even odds to go over 700 receiving yards is the easiest bet I've ever made. Thanks for the free money Vegas.

He's knocked his 2 major hires out of the water. If we are looking this off-season (or whenever in the future - for any major sport) I do 100% trust him to get his guy.

keith doesnt get the credit for the lane higher, the ole miss alumni and fans creating a swell and push for the hire deserves the credit. He heard the calls and he made the decision to listen. but i dont think that was his initial direction woth the hire.
