How many jobs would he leave us for?
Maybe a handful. And a handful more where he would probably think seriously about it. But not many, and I don’t see Florida as being in either of those categories.
Honestly, right now I would be more worried about the Jacksonville Jaguars

Hadn’t even thought of Jacksonville. I just assumed Pederson is safe but Lawrence has played like arse, they paid him top money and khan isn’t afraid of spending.
And it’s in the beach. Jacksonville is trash but he’d live in Ponte vedra.

Lane's daughter is at Ole Miss and his son is at Oxford Middle School. He has a good thing going on w/ support from the collective and the school. I don't see UF offering enough of a raise for him to want to start over and rebuild.

Same here his family loves Oxford a ton.. Don't see him leaving here unless he gets fired

Well, bottom line is if he doesn’t stay with all the good that’s going on what more can the ole miss family possibly do? It’s just the damn truth.

The money.
Money wise we are prairie Jews In the sec. There is no meaningful buy out for lanes contract. Lane is making the same big money as bk etc but the contract is one way. Lane never fully committed to us on that issue alone. Florida has deep pockets and are hyper motivated. No income tax in Florida. He owns real estate there already. When the auburn drama passed it was conventional wisdom on this board that if and when Fl opened up again it was going to be a problem and here we are.
Recruiting
As some on here have acknowledged we are currently built for this year. Total rebuild needed for 2025. That's a problem. No worse case at Florida. Lane has had
no relative success recruiting. HS. I would feel better if we were at least in top12 overall and top 6 SEC and then the portal king could fill in the rest. I also don't understand why we do not recruit HS better just based on the lane kiffin is our coach factor alone. For some reason it just hasn't happened. There is something wrong with this.
Bitchy lane
People leaving game early
Fans should be more grateful for what I have done here
I don't talk about job decisions until end of season.. This. If he really intends to make a go with us he will shut down such speculation immediately for his own sake. Otherwise I feel an even bigger auburn circa 2022 arse sandwich drama about to be served up which ruined that season except this year would be worse ( more like 4 th and 25 all over again) based on the potential of this team.
As far as next coach if necessary please hire another chf or drink type coach who will loose to Memphis but will recruit top 10 classes and pop Alabama types in the mouth two years in a row. A low maintenance woman who can cook. I prefer that ride over the lane train is leaving every year.
That being said between NIL and the magic of Keith carter maybe lane stays. If he does stay with us this time around then I think it is true love and a long term relationship. And that I am all in on.

This shite is pathetic.
Kiffin is being paid top 5 money. There is nothing Jewish about that. We have two of the highest paid coordinators. Get off with the we won’t pay bullshite.
We are a senior laden roster. That much is true. Everything else is just hand wringing and we are MONTHS from early signing. Maybe calm down a little on this.
Bitchy Lane has been covered ad nauseam. He bitches when we blow out patsies. He will not when we play someone with a pulse. You’re being dramatic and over reactive.
And oh. My. God. You want us to hire someone who is comfortable keeping us in the 6-8 win range? Losing to Memphis but occasionally beating Bama? What. The. frick? That’s some state level shite if I’ve ever seen it and the mindset that will destroy OM athletics.

This is complete bullshite and Ole Miss fans need to grow up.
There's little upside for Lane going to Florida. People act as if it will immediately become a machine. The amount of money and cooperation that Ole Miss has put into the football program dwarfs Florida right now. It's bigger than Kiffin's paycheck alone. We also committed an enormous amount of money to the assistant coaches. At the top are the coordinators and they are two of the highest paid in all of college football.
Pete Golding - $2.15 M (#3 in nation)
Charlie Weis Jr - $1.65 M (#1 in nation)
Then you have:
Brown - $750k
McDonald - $625k
Cox - $325k
(etc... you get the point.)
How else do you think Lane's been able to hire all of these coaches as analysts? We have $742k committed to analysts alone.
NIL: We've proven that we can be a leader in the NIL world. It's not just the amount of money but also how successfully it has been used. We've been able to sign the #1 portal class in 2022 & 2024, as well as the #3 class in 2023. In addition, we've been able to keep the athletes that we want to retain from leaving. We've become a transfer destination. That's not just going to magically appear at Florida.
This all to say that the commitment that Ole Miss has put forth speaks volumes. Look at Arkansas, their AD is begging fans to help. MSU - dead in the water. Auburn - completely mismanaged. Florida - Nothing shown except for complete disarray.
I haven't even spoken about the intangibles... the daughter at Ole Miss, the mom living in Oxford, Knox transferring to Oxford next year (Future OM QB?), the ability to have some privacy, the use of the jet for travel, the incentives of his contract.
- $150k per SEC win
- $100k per P5 non SEC win
- SEC Championship game ($150k to lose and $400k to win)
- Various bowl win payouts
- Playoffs: $150k for making the 1st round, $250k for 2nd round, $500k for semifinals, $750k for title game and another $1 million for winning the title
- If named SEC coach of the year $50k or national coach of the year $100k
- $200k if Ole Miss sells over 40k season tickets (we did)
- He also gets paid for his team's academic success
- He gets 2 cars, Country Club membership, a suite at V-H Stadium
- 30 in-flight hours of private air travel (Any unused hours roll over to following year)
Ole Miss fans need to get their heads out of their asses, enjoy this potentially historic season, and stop acting like the sky is falling with every rumor.

A hot woman that everyone hits on but stays with you > a low maintenance fatty that cooks.
Why? Because you have to keep yourself attractive to hold on to that hottie. Having a coach that everyone wants ensures that Ole Miss itself stays committed to doing things at the top level. A good coach alone is not going to win championships. A program that goes all in at every aspect wins championships.
And honestly, we start winning really big and a large portion of this state is going to become sidewalk fans. It won't be divided up anymore since MSU sucks so unbelievably bad. Those sidewalk fans spend money too.

Eh. That doesn’t really disprove anything. He’s theorizing that Florida waits until after the playoffs to go after someone.
Florida doesn’t give a shite about our or Mizzou’s playoff. If they want them, they’ll offer whenever they want.

His argument has nothing to do with Florida honestly, just mapping out how our playoff chances and aspirations are logistically a nightmare if you’re trying to change schools. I have no doubt UF will try, I just don’t see them succeeding
Posted on 9/18/24 at 9:25 am to WhistlinDixie15
I know what his point is. What I’m saying is that our playoff schedule is irrelevant to Florida’s timeline of finding a coach. They’re not going to give a shite about our playoff schedule. And if someone offers a coach enough money, they aren’t going to give a shite any longer about the playoffs either.
Posted on 9/18/24 at 9:53 am to pankReb

December 4th is early signing along with NIL. Regular NIL is 2/5. Playoffs start December 20th and run through January 20th.
If Florida waits they’ll have missed early signing and NIL. They’ll have 15 days after the finals to put together a transfer class assuming the hire is made on the 20th after the game.
Now of course if we don’t make the playoffs it doesn’t matter but the deeper we go the harder it becomes to do anything meaningful building a roster. Playoffs do matter.
quote:

True but not really relevant.

If the season plays out even remotely close to expectations we won’t be out paid. As for the second sentence, bruh, the goal of every player, coach, waterboy is to win a championship. There is only one per year and opportunities come only so often, regardless of school.
When Lane flirted with Auburn we were good but not playoffs good. That’s what we are now.
Posted on 9/18/24 at 9:55 am to WhistlinDixie15
lol just watched it and that was basically my argument as well.

If Florida offers Lane a salary that blows anything we can come close to out of the water saying “but you have to be here on December 1st”, suddenly this year’s championship means a lot less important. And it’s a losers mindset for him to think he wouldn’t be able to build himself another opportunity and at a faster pace at Florida.
I’m not saying they will offer that or that he could turn around Florida very quickly….but everyone has a price and I want a coach confident enough to think he can compete again within a few years.
quote:
If Florida waits they’ll have missed early signing and NIL.
Which is why they won’t wait and will have to put together a package big enough not to wait.
ETA: thankfully the hypothetical with Florida is more than just how much salary they can offer. Florida has a lot of work to do with the program before I’m worried about them.
