I agree this isn’t a good sign, but it honestly makes no sense from anyone’s perspective. Why would lane care about the egg bowl but not the playoffs? Why would Keith think it is worth letting him stick around when the committee can still screw us a week later? Why would LSU/UF be ok with another week where he could still change his mind?
Not making any announcement would have been better for literally everyone.
Honestly beating state without him would be the best option for our playoff chances

I am about to find a random meritless reason to sue the Athletic Department because if this is how they negotiate at crunch time, I like anyone's odds.

If he is not staying, he probably should not coach the Egg Bowl. Our coordinators can handle it the rest of the way out. Kiffin help build out the foundation, but it can be ran without him on the sidelines.
State fans are going to be brutal with him on the sidelines, knowing it is his last game as a Rebel.
I cannot buy into the committee punishing a team for losing their coach. A impact player you can see them justifying, but not a coach. It would set a bad precedent to drop a team in rankings, just because a coach left. They were not the ones lining up on the field and playing the game.

Keith just gave us one big giant word salad. I wouldn’t try to read too much into that statement other than a quit posting rumors about an announcement. Nothing’s happening until after the egg bowl.

Basically, Lane is gone and won't be focused at all on the Egg Bowl. Gonna be interesting to see if he shows his face at Knox's game.

If you want to keep Lane this is not bad at all! It was fully expected. Its genius.
If we win the Egg Bowl (or we get into the the playoffs anyway) Kiffin will then stay for playoffs . We riding. Florida/LSU will go away and they are that much further behind.
