The opening that worries me more is if LSU opened.

Yeah if that job had opened up instead of Florida I would be very pessimistic because they’ve already taken a few of the player personnel guys away from us. Lane would fit in better with their culture than Florida

Did they move it out of Baton Rouge?

Well, decided to delete that post because I didn't want MBG to pick it up.

That’s why LSU has a 3 million dollar buyout for the water boy. Top coaches really make LSU’s athletic department pay up to live in the third world, just look at our salaries across the department.

I think Kiffin would have left for LSU within seconds if this were 2023, but it feels like Lane has grown an affinity for the university that’s enough to at least not leave Ole Miss for their arch rival. My gut says he wouldn’t do it, but I guess crazier things have happened.

I am more surprised how open the LSU brass is to firing Brian Kelly. It has come out Kelly went on vacation during our bye week and the donors that matter are irate. Good insider said “people are tired of paying out the arse for a ‘part-time coach’”.

Going to be a wild and most likely depressing next six weeks in red stick. I would imagine LSU doesn’t make the call unless they know someone big is in the fold.

I think he would seriously consider LSU, unfortunately.

It really all boils down to how these coaches view their legacy. If Lane left Ole Miss for frankly anyone besides LSU or an SECW rival, he would be fondly remembered as bringing the school to heights it hasn’t seen in 50 years.

Same with Kelly having an ounce of pride. For all his faults he could retire and be remembered as stabilizing a program that was on fire when Orgeron left, or he wait for the wheels fall off with the fan base knowing he basically stole from us being on the golf course all day.

Well the Ole Miss 247 guys don't seem too hopeful:

Lane Kiffin Extension is not imminent

I don’t think anyone with any sense thought we would be getting an extension for at least a week or two.

That being said, we know just as much as the fricktard “insiders” we have. So if they said that, an extension will probably get announced tomorrow

At what point do we let lane walk?

Is there a breaking point ?

No, but this may well be the time he leaves. And if he does, we need to go all in on Sumrall

Great question. I’ll just throw some numbers out there without really knowing shite about all this other than what I read and hear on the radio. At this point in time (I say that because these numbers will only increase in the coming years) I’m thinking if the requirement is anything north of $14 mill a year with a buyout that’s more than say $45 million. Which are both fricked up (especially these damn buyouts) but this is the company we are trying to keep. And even these numbers may not make sense for Ole Miss and most anybody else, but it doesn’t mean we won’t still do it.

P.S. - I also feel quite confident if he does decide to walk, and he will one day like 99 percent of all coaches, we are in a pretty good position to do better than we have traditionally at times with a replacement.

If Auburn loses this weekend they will fire Freeze and go after Sumrall. The wildcard with him is Kentucky. That is his dream job.

Anything north of 14 million I feel like. And I couldn’t blame Carter for letting him go at that point

I think I agree. 14 million is national championship winner coach pay. Throw him in a 5 million dollar bonus if he wins it all, but he doesn’t quite deserve to be the highest paid yet. He hasn’t won anything.

And ok let’s say we do get basically extorted to go that high, what’s to say he won’t do this all again in. 2026 and potentially derail a 3rd season.

This really is madness if you think about it. What other fan base is having their coach treating them like this ? Maybe I’m the one out of touch and naive to how all this works. But damn, 13 million+.. you won’t ever be happy anywhere.

If he leaves then everything he’s said the last couple years is complete bullshite. It’s still crazy how he wasted last year’s roster with losses to Kentucky Florida and LSU. All games we should have won.

If we blow a single game this season because of this bullshite, consider me permanently off the Lane Train. That will be 2 seasons that's he's completely wasted due to this garbage.

It's funny, we are in the midst of a high probability playoff run and he's risking blowing it to then take a position somewhere else to try to get to this exact point.

I know he's looking for a payday but at some point, you have been offered enough. Go win the fricking games and shut this stupid shite out by signing.

I am getting to the point where I actually hope he goes to Florida and falls flat on his dumbass face or an NFL job opens and they have to deal with this same shite.

Sorry for the foul language. It's just how I am about this right now.

Looks like we've already leaped to conclusions here.

This is the message board bullshite I keep talking about. It spreads like cancer. It starts on message boards. Spreads to the point of bloggers taking notice. The desperate for click folks write articles about it. It fuels message board bullshite even more....this forces bigger media types to start running with it. And then it's every where. There's no where to go that it isn't thrown in the faces of the coaches and players causing a massive distraction.

And it is ALL because of message board bullshite.

Well that’s honestly their fault for putting an end to rumors if you’re actually going to stay.

Absolutely this. People need to touch grass. I'm sure Keith is working with Sexton on trying to get a deal done.

As fans, everyone wants instant gratification - that's not how things work in the real world. It does suck that Lane hasn't said, "I have no interest in leaving Ole Miss" - that's part of the "Lane Tax" with him refusing to comment on contracts during the season. But, people pushing the whole "he can go ahead and leave" is frustrating and that stuff does get back to players.
