Why do conservatives keep harkening back to Ronald Reagan's time in office?

Sure, there were good times but damn, Ronald Reagan was our president some 30-odd years ago. The world has changed in a myriad of ways.
Truth be told, there could be a candidate that is IDENTICAL to Reagan in every ideological way and the GOP would eat him up and spit him out just like every other piece of shite savior that they march out there every couple of years. Hell, that guy probably exists and is probably being black-balled and ignored as I type this.
What do these idiots really want out of a presidential candidate?
DISCLAIMER: I'm no Democrat. They're awful in their own right. I just keep seeing Reagan-this and Reagan-that thrown around in arguments.
frick politics. Why in the blue frick am I posting this?

Remember when the Reagan administration proposed to allow ketchup to count as a nutritious, healthy vegetable in school meals for poor kids? Now those were the good old days.

Ronald Reagan was one of the best presidents this country ever had.
So frick you Sorantable. Shut your whore mouth about Reagan.

Bold enough to ride out restricting the money supply. I wish the current President would do the same.

Once, back in the 1980s, a diplomat and his family were kidnapped by spear chuckers in central asia. They wanted something or other.
So Reagan had a pretty good idea of who'd dun it. He had all the families of the local tribes rounded up, by coincidence there were very few young men in the villages at the time.
Then He killed half of them, and let the locals know that if the diplomat and his family were not returned, they would kill the other half.
THe diplomat and his family were alive and well and returned.
Or maybe that was the KGB, but you get where I'm going with this.

A) POTUS doesn't control the money supply.
B) Deflationary pressures are different than inflationary pressures. The early 80s featured the latter and 2008 featured the former. Different solutions to different problems.

Nostalgia like someone said. It sells well to the baby boomers who are love with Raegan because he "destroyed" the Russians even though the truth is that the Russians were already failing from within due to being an occupying power. Something we could learn from but of course never will.
The more things "change" the more you realize they have stayed the same.

Stagflation was upon us, and although it hurt a lot of people, riding out high interest rates was a tough choice, but the right one. I think this administration is scared of letting interest rates rise to more sustainable levels because it affects what they want to do.

Reagan's value wasn't in policy, it was in restoring a positive energy back to the USA. The nation was at a low in 1979 and Reagan had the ability to make people feel good about the future and that being an American wasn't such a bad thing. Nation still have the Vietnam Hangover among other things.
A presidents value is in being a leader, a communicator. He was respected in those ways. In fact the only two presidents I can remember (and I've been alive since the 60's) who fit that description were Reagan and Clinton. You don't have to like their policy, but both knew how to communicate and knew how to influence others. The worst were Ford and Obama.
