I went to my Aunts funeral and that was all I heard for two days.

Also, why buy floral arrangements for $60-$150 a pop.

They are dead. What's the problem?

No idea. I think I've only been to 2 or 3 and none in the last 15 years.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." (Colossians 3:16)

Also a lot of folks in the south view funerals as a celebration of the person's life.

Funerals are for the living; the person who died doesn’t really care about anything, anymore.

Generally, as someone else stated, in the south it tends to be a celebration of that person’s life and legacy. I’d like to think that when we die that our soul/spirit/essence/whatever lives on in some place like heaven, where we get to see all of our loved ones again, but in all likelihood we just rot in the ground; either way, I don’t want those I leave behind to be sad that I’m gone. I want them to look back on the times we had together and be glad that we got to experience them together.

Never been to a southern funeral, but this is one business that probably hasn't changed much over the years with services. Products and cost have changed, but layout and services probably the same as always.

my favorite are Irish funerals.

Don't think it matters if they're from the north or the south.

I agree. But having to look at a dead corpse for days isn't really celebrating anything. It is grieving over the past.

Why not just accept that things perish and be done with it?

Why eleborate things?

I understand your arguments, so feel free to offer more as you see fit. It doesn't mean that I am right.

I am just tired of going to funerals right now. Flowers, music and caskets are getting unnecessarily expensive.

Bluegrass
Gospel
Soul
Blues
Jazz

So many choices!

Gospel Polka would be my exit music.

You pay for music and caskets for other people's funerals?

Funerals help the living who are suffering the pain of loss cope with the situation. They bring the people who are hurting together, so they can reminisce the good times shared and lessons learned from that person who is important to them. Emotional healing can be some really difficult shite.

As for music, I guess it's better than silence. Who wants to clearly hear hundreds of other people crying. The shite's naturally depressing enough. It's a ceremony and a social event, so people spend money on it to make it more bearable.

I need to stay alive long enough to sock away cash to be able to afford to check out properly. As the OP accurately points out, people keep finding ways to make it too damned expensive to kick the bucket.

It covers-up the smell of the rotting corpse.

Not true lol.

It is a huge racket though. Then after the visitation you have to figure where to put them.
