Nothing screams Walmart like going to Jamaica and going to Jimmy Buffet's bar.

Well if a person were to live where I do and have a neighborhood Walmart like I do - with hot chicks then they would probably have a different opinion of a cruise taken in late August.

If a person lived in a shitty place and took 4 day cruises and didn't have hot chicks in scanty clothing at their Walmart then yes, they would not understand and think cruises are not good. Sucks you live where you do.

And have never been on a cruise either. You live in a town that EVERYBODY has to go to the local Walmart. Going to the Cayman Islands is totally different than living in the shite-hole you live in. But hey, knock cruises even though they would be a hell of a step up than what you deal with on a day-to-day basis.

I've been on a cruise. It sucked, and have no intentions of going on one again.

And I was just in Grand Cayman last week. Flew in, rented a house on the water near Rum Point for the week, ate like a king. But I didn't go to the Hard Rock Cafe or Guy Harvey's restaurant. Fail I guess.

WTF? That is not the way to go. If you have to do that, it wasn't worth going in the first place.

And cruises suck. For many reasons outlined ITT. I swore I'd never go on another, but got suckered into a Disney cruise this past year. Outside of the kids having fun, it sucked as well.

Last cruise I went on was about 4 years ago with Holland America. Started in Venice, Italy, and ended in Barcelona, Spain. In between we stopped at Rome, Naples, Sicily, Florence, 3 different Greek islands and Dubrovnik, Croatia. We had a blast. Spent a couple of extra days in Venice and Barcelona since they were the terminus points of the cruise.

Would definitely do again.

The good: food, get to see a lot of different cities/countries on one trip with someone else driving, cost is relatively cheap compared to other forms of vacation, Holland America does a great job.

The bad: add-ons can get pricey, excursions can get crowded depending on what you choose, time seems to go by at a lightning pace.

The ugly: you get the bum's rush at some sites you'd like to spend a lot more time at. Worst example for us was just getting an hour in the city of Oia on the island of Santorini. I could've spent days there. On the plus side, we got an amazing view of the city at sunset as we were leaving the island and I never would've visited at all if not for the cruise.

Anyway, I thought I'd hate a cruise and I ended up really enjoying it.

It's the way we went. We had a blast doing all the fun stuff on the boat soberly and chilling on the beach in Grand Cayman and hiking the ruins in Tulum. You might not like them, but we enjoyed it and didn't have to take out another mortgage or rob a bank to afford it (Disney).

Been couple with RC. Had a blast. If you drink, definitely buy the drink package, I believe ours was like 250 a person. Worth every penny. I enjoyed the trip more than the off boat things as everything off boat seemed exceptionally touristy. The best part I thought was that RC owns a island in the Caribbean and it docks and people can enjoy the beach and Caribbean ocean for the day with basically just the cruise folk, but its a big enough place that its not crowded, there's things to do, and the drinks keep showing up.

My suggestion: Buy the drink package, tip the waiter the first drink and periodically afterwards, and you will never have a empty glass.

Best of luck.

You pay for everything up front. Then get on the cruise to find $8.00 coors light (don't worry! Charge them to your room!). Then on the last night a new bill comes under the door mandating $50/day tip for the cabin cleaning crew, which must be paid before exiting the ship (in addition to your bar tab).

I'm going on my first one this year, honestly all I've heard for sure that's good is the eating and that's all that matters to me. Anybody been to Cozumel and costa maya? Any good excursions to try or bad ones to avoid? Thanks in advance.

Good- food
bad- not being able to hide from obnoxious passengers
ugly- if you run into rough seas, you'll vomit stuff that you ate in the 3rd grade.
Seriously, there's been a ton of violence (drug cartel war) around the resort areas of Mexico lately, so keep your head down and your bulletproof vest on.

I have a cruise to Alaska planned. Gonna fly to Washington and board there. It isn't cheap but I can at least scratch Alaska off the bucket list. This will be my first cruise as well.

Good - Food, entertainment, being on the water

Bad - Rooms can be somewhat small (depending on the type of cruise you're going on)

Ugly - There are always gross people on cruises. This goes for almost every major cruise line that there is.

Took the rib and kids on a Disney cruise out of Galveston. Expected to hate it ... ended up being an enjoyable deal.

Six of us old college guys have been getting together annually for a long time. The group, plus wives took a cruise and we all enjoyed the experience. We did have "walmart" moments but no big deal.

We all sat together at meals. On the last night at dinner all of us had tip envelopes for the various staff. I would guess only 20 percent of the dining area was occupied whereas it had been full every other night.

I made the comment this showed me how many cheap bastards there were on this cruise. Our waiter and his assistant were elated and thanked us several times.

The majority of the wait staff did not receive tips.
That was the ugly part of the cruise to me.

The good: relatively inexpensive (with carnival you can get unlimited alcohol for just $50/day per person)

The bad: the food is overrated, the destinations aren't as luxurious as they appear online sometimes

The ugly: children

We've been on a few cruises and enjoy them but we aren't gonna go back on one for a while. Pick the right destinations and you'll have a good time.
