What words or phrases do you hear mis-used that drive you nuts?

This is like a spin-off from the "like" thread.

For me:

Verse instead of "versus". "Alabama verse Auburn". No dipshits, I know you see "vs", and think it is "verse", but it is "versus". It has always been versus.

"I have a pit in my stomach" instead of "I have a bad feeling/felt it in the pit of my stomach".

Irregardless. I have heard whitecollar professionals use this repeatedly, unironically. It makes me cringe every time. Use either "regardless", or "irrespective". Those are actually words.

"I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less"

I hear it daily and my response is always "oh really? well why don't you" or some derivative there of. Drives me insane.

The mis-use of literally is a scurge on our society. It figuratively speaks volumes about how dumbed down the world is becoming. Really grinds my gears.

"I'd rather drink bleach then cheer for Clemson."

"Your an idiot."

Also improper use of there, their and they're.

Those drive me nuts.

People who don’t even pronounce the “s” in “isn’t it.” They pronounce it as “it-en it”

Decimate.

The actual historic meaning comes from when Roman soldiers would conquer a village and kill one out of every ten adult male survivors. So they killed 10%.

The modern connotation is total destruction.

I mostly hear lower class blacks and some felonious whites use "it's" in place of "there is/are".

"It's a lot of people in this bar".

"It's way too many spinkles on this cupcake".

"It's nobody in my family know who they daddy be".

The constant misuse of dominate/dominant by posters here.

As mentioned before in this thread, the failure to use the contraction " 've" properly instead of "of" is a constant here, also.

Thought of another one. The younger people tend to answer yes, even when the answer is no. Or answer affirmatively when the answer is in disagreement. Drives me nuts.

"You ever fall asleep when driving?"

"Oh yes. I would never do that, I stop the car at the first sign of sleepiness."

"Would of" is a typo/misspelling. That's what "would've" sounds like when most Americans say it. I hate that one, too, but it's just online.

I will drop the "s" in "wasn't" and "isn't" sometimes in speech, but it's just my accent.

"I wa'nt there today". It i'int my fault.

Pulling one's mouth into a "zz" sound after a lowercase "A" sound feels forced and gay with certain words.
