i think part of the issue had to do with the fact that the dixie chicks were out of the country and spouted out their stuff during a concert if i'm not mistaken. i'm not saying it matters to me, i'm saying i think that's one reason it blew up like it did. there's a certain no-no people feel when americans go abroad and then talk negatively about america. see gwyneth paltrow and people's attitudes towards her comments regarding europe.

Perhaps a better, more recent, comparison would be Martin Bashir. I didn't see the same talking heads from the right come to his defense like they have for Robertson. I saw a couple rejoicing that he lost his job though.
I think saying homosexuality is a sin in a global level on an off air interview is different than telling a specific woman to eat $#1t on air or in print for his place of work.
Now, do I feel he had the right to say that? You betcha. Just like with A&E they had the right to drop them. I do know that 2 MSNBC employees have lost their jobs due to saying something entirely unwholesome at a specific person in the last 3 months.
At the end of the day we're either going to see A&E shove this under the rug ( for money) or full on kick him off or drop the show (convictions). And the Robertson will choose keep doing the show without Phil (money) or not not do it at all without him (convictions)
I have a feeling that money will win for A&E and convictions for DD.

The only real solution here is for A&E to give Phil a choice to either put aside his denial and come out as a poo jabber on the air during a special DD episode or retire from the series.

Yes, it is a great example of hypocrisy.
It is. And I like the Duck guys. Im not a extremist either way but these two cases are really the exact same thing
I have said for weeks, the same people jump up and down every single day for Phil's right to free speech are the exact same people who boycotted and threw the Dixie Chicks out.
Truly a case of selective support

No shite. It's funny how people will rationalize anything.

That it is. And a shame because the Dixie Chicks are still 10xs better than a large part of what's on country radio today too.

I personally know some out there who boycotted them for being open about their beliefs who are now in disbelief that a TV Station would suspend Phil
I didn't think anyone was silly enough to equate being "fired" to someone boycotting performances. I guess there are.
Boycotting Duck Dynasty would be the right thing to do for those offended by Phil's statement. I highly doubt those offended have ever watched that show though.

I think the real villain in this controversy is GQ. They baited Robertson into saying something he otherwise would never have revealed. It's clear what GQ execs think of the DD cast. If anybody was attempting to take down DD, it was GQ. There seem to be no consequences for them whatsoever.
BTW, why the hell did Robertson talk with them anyhow? That's like Weight Watchers interviewing Paula Deen? You know it's not going to end well.
