A Mississippi State alumn is the 2nd only non-POTUS to have a Nimitz-Class Aircraft Carrier named after him. USS John C. Stennis. The other non-POTUS was Admiral Nimitz, the first carrier to be built.

The University System of GA has Notth Ga College and State University which is HIGHLY regarded within the Army as a producer of top notch officers. If anyone scoffs at that, they are ignorant of that institution and it’s reputation.

I'm scoffing and I'm well aware of that institution. It's well regarded in the Georgia NG which runs that college like the mob. It is not well regarded in the Regular Army compared to other SMCs and probably has the worst reputation of the six.

I attended on a b-ball scholarship in the 80s. It was told that it had a higher percentage of Generals than any of the other military colleges and West Point. Was that true or was it urban legend? IDK nor really care. I do know that a number of guys I attended with went on to have prestigious RA careers not NG careers.
ETA: By “higher percentage of generals” I meant in proportion to number of graduates.

I wouldn't know but I kind of doubt it. It would be a pain in the arse to verify and would require days of data mining from GOMO but my guess would be the USMA because of their small class sizes and ridiculously high General Officer percentage, like half of current GOs are USMA grads.

That's cool, maybe it was different in the 80s but I've served both in line units and in recruiting in Georgia and I can tell you that UNG is a nightmare to try to get RA people out of, Officers or Enlisted. The NG has resident instructors and a recruiting office there, they snag the kids as Freshman with fast talking and big promises and get them in SMP. Until recently they allowed very little RA/AR recruitment presence and have opened up...but only to the AR and only one recruiter. I don't know what the RA instructors are doing there, if they even have any, I would think that they would, but they are getting their arse kicked by the GA NG. A huge part of that is due to the University of North Georgia Military Scholarship Program which provides free tuition....provided that they join the NG upon commissioning. LINK
I've known five UNG grads in the RA and the ones I asked about it confirmed the NG's ownership of the place. Of those guys two were OSB'd in the first round which no one was surprised by because they were idiots. One resigned of his own accord at O-3, he was meh. One was a legitimately good officer and is an O-4 now, the other one is competent but a nightmare to deal with on a personal level and is a senior O-3.
From what I've seen UNG is respected in the sense that it is an SMC and might provide a better foundation than many ROTC programs, and it might provide a certain degree of networking which is a huge upside to any SMC, but it simply isn't regarded on the same level as the others. Maybe because it's younger, and less prestigious...maybe because it lags behind them academically, I don't know but it is what it is. If I had to rank them this is what I'd say:

I'm not knocking UNG. I'm sure that it provides a valuable education and like I said, it's probably better than going the ROTC route.

That's all interesting and sounds valid. I always kind of doubted the general thing, too, especially in regards to West Point. I'm old; maybe as you say, things have changed in 3 decades.

Rereading my stuff I realize that I might come off a bit aggressive when I shouldn't have, I don't hate UNG or think it's shitty. It's just a different animal unique unto itself.
