I was married at 24. My husband took out a 1 year interest free loan to buy it. Call him stupid, but he paid it off that first year, and we are still married almost 11 years later.

I was lucky...my wife did not want one...Married in 1980 at 23--she was 21...still married...more than made up no engagement ring with anniversary band on 25th anniversary.

the easy answer here, sincerely, is buy the girl a 1/4 - 1/2 carot ring right now. sure you'll feel LOLpoor, but on your 10 year anniversary bust out the 1-2k.
