I was raised with spankings and personally feel it was effective. That being said, psychology researchers appear to agree it's not good.

I was spanked growing up.

I don't spank my kids.

I have no opinion on how you raise your kids, but generally don't agree with spanking.

Every other animal in the animal kingdom uses corporal punishment to teach and keep their offspring alive.

I don't think humans have evolved beyond it.

While there are some good psych people out there, statistically speaking, the grown children of people with the profession of psychiatrists/psychologists generally rank in the top 5 of "bad" categories (criminals, unethical behaviors, divorce rate, etc.). By top 5, I mean they are likely to be criminals, etc.

I don't think these people are qualified to give advice on what is good or not good in raising children.

Psychology and psychiatry are one step above witchcraft. It’s no coincidence in the last 40-50 years when parents started turning to supposed mental health experts for child rearing advice that children have started to manifest more and more aberrant behavior.

Child discipline isn’t that complex because children aren’t complex creatures. Infants and toddlers don’t understand negotiating and logical discussion. They understand pain on their bottom. Spank their butts.

I’m not against it but have raised well behaved children without really resorting to it. I think the biggest thing with kids is to be engaged with them and set a good example. If you do this you generally shouldn’t need to spank.

I think natural consequences work best. Only in cases of outright defiance would I considered spanking.

I'm all in for spanking as a corrective measure. Now, within bounds. Children should not be spanked so hard as to break the skin and cause medical need, but a good spanking is good for kids.

Look at the non spanking world we live in today. The decline is real, and a big part of that is parents who don't discipline their kids, but instead want to be their best friends.

Just ask Frankie Four Fingers.....

So the Biblical scholars mis-translated the Hebrew word for "young woman" into the Greek word for "virgin," which was a pretty easy mistake to make, since there is only a subtle difference in the spelling. But back then it was the "virgin" that caught people's attention. It's not every day a virgin conceives and bears a son. So you keep that for a couple of hundred years, and the next thing you know, you have the Holy Catholic church.
