Miss America Pageant is scrapping swimsuit competition

Here's my prediction...viewership will plummet, they'll have to bring it back, and they'll frame it as empowering women somehow

If the entire viewing audience today for Miss America is women, the loss of the swimsuit competition will still be the death knell of the competition. Women like seeing beautiful women almost as much as men do. Probably for different reasons (judging flaws-it’s what women do), but it is a driver for these competitions. That’s what opens the door for twirling fire batons and practiced answers on whirled peas, not the other way around.

Think about it this way as a man: do you approach a less attractive female at a bar hoping she can play Bach and recite Shakespeare, or approach the more attractive one to be pleasantly surprised that she can? The former sits on the shelf, and the latter sells.

Yep, and there's likely some 7's and 9's under those burkas.

A friend mine who won a Miss Insert State competition (friend zone of the highest order, no humble brag) was ripping this on social media yesterday. Saying the swimsuit competition was one of the most important parts for contestants because it teaches self love, health, discipline etc. and isn't even a big portion of the score.

So the contestants want it to stay, and the viewers want it to stay. They're only canceling it to appease the sky screaming bloggers who didn't watch in the first place
