Long term decline of CFB will not be due to SJW nonsense

Sure that has alienated plenty of fans, but I think we're missing the forest for the trees:
- post-1965 immigrants will be a majority soon: if anything they care about soccer, not what we call football
- Attendance and pregaming is cost-prohibitive, why go through all the parking and other regulations and get price gouged at every opportunity when you can watch at home?
- High school sports participation is declining, not just football, but that is the most dramatic case.
- Universities don't represent their states anymore, I'd wager that in-state enrollees have been declining as a percentage of the total for most FBS universities. They'll take anyone who can pay the exorbitant tuitions. If these students graduate, they probably go back home and don't have much inclination to go back and spend a small fortune on attending an FB game.
-You'll always have the sidewalk alumni, but it's not like in the past when state pride was a big deal and there weren't as many pro sports options. Especially in the South, when all we had in last decades were the Saints, Bucs and Falcons, who were mostly terrible

Ok, but literally none of those things affects why I watch college football to start with.

U of A's enrollment is 50%+ TX kids these days, many of whom come great wealth. A lot I was in school with do not come back to football games ever, and will talk Big 12 before SEC. Mainly TCU and Texas.

Universities are currently addicted at differing levels to foreign, mostly Chinese, students as well since they'll pay the tuition without needing loans. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they aren't gonna be future alumni association leaders

A lot of that is true. What is truer is that nobody idealizes CFB like Boomer white dudes.

They're fading fast. GenX and Millennials just don't give a shite as much and have a much more sober picture of what CFB is about.

Not true. It's about 50% out of state, but Texans are only about 30%.

Yep. Boomers are all in on their idealized memories of college football from the days when 3 games got put on broadcast tv, and the rest of the country followed on AM radio.

Those who grew up with the internet have always been exposed to a lot more of the underlying ugliness of the sport. I still love CFB, but it's a damn greasy game, and that's tough to forget sometimes.

CFB wont be around much longer. The SJW/cancel culture is just the latest nail in the coffin.

It amuses me to see all the posters here think everything will continue as normal. Muh football will go on as always!

No, the sport has been forever wounded.

CTE, demographic changes, player salaries, overall costs, coronavirus, and fan alienation all play a part in the sport's demise.

Other spectator sports will survive but I think football will go the way of the dodo.

This might be true for smaller schools, Ivy League etc.

But the SEC, Big 10, Big 12 are ironclad. There will probably be consolidation and realignment but the South and Midwest absolutely cares about football.

I think the biggest reason is the ridiculous amount it costs for season tickets at some places. After the 2007 season UGA wanted like a $10000 donation just to be able to buy the tickets. F that.

Agree with your perspective.
It's basically the Pussification of America.
I guess it was inevitable as life gets easier, people get softer and liberal progressives dominate every aspect of media and education with ongoing brainwashing.
100 years from now people will look back on the history of football and wonder why civilized men battled each other like gladiators on a football field/arena. They will think: how barbaric; why on earth would they want to hurt each other?
Never mind that inner city violence rages on......

Great comments thus far. I agree with most of what I’ve read and just want to add something about the SJW culture and the likelihood of playing college football this season....

We’re hearing that games will be played in empty stadiums or partially filled stadiums with fans socially distanced in the bleachers and wearing masks. So we’ve got everyone in the stadium social distancing to maintain their safety/health and the community’s safety/health except the kids playing the game, 80% of which are black. How does this play with the SJW crowd? Aren’t the player’s lives just as important as the “mostly white” fans?

If that is how the SEC, Big XII, etal plan to play this year, it’s going to be a shitshow in the mainstream media. Good luck to the conferences and the AD’s explaining their priorities.

This is the biggest factor for me. Going to a game is just such a hassle it's not worth it for me.

A lot of them are playing baseball instead. In ways that hurts participation in high school football. College baseball has grown substantially over the years because of the demographic shift. The pros like MLB pay more and you can play for 10+ years where you aren't in a wheelchair after your playing days are over.

Same for me, and I have a handful of friends that have given up their season tickets at least partially because of it as well. A few of them also have kids in sports that seemed to always conflict with games, so that played a part as well.

For the most part, going to games just isn't that enjoyable anymore. Even watching it on TV has lost a lot of appeal to me in recent years. Bama's success has something to do with that because in most seasons recently, we only have one or two competitive games in the regular season.

Targeting is killing football. A lot of rulings weren't leading with the helmet. But they were ejected anyway. So that has caused players to think than to react. Football is a bout moving and not thinking. The offense has so many rules that favor them that defenses shouldn't exist.

2019 did a lot for me in terms of following LSU however my Saints fandom has waned a ton.

The NOLA No Call kind of took the wind out of my sails and the fact that its impossible to watch an NFL game without a commercial every 5 seconds led to me watching like 2 Saints games last season.

The SJW shite with the team this offseason has only pushed me farther away, I'm not necessarily "boycotting", just not nearly as interested. I dont even know who they drafted this year.
