Congratulations! If you're married, I'll bet your wife's excited....women really get into new house buying....especially the decorating part ($$$$)!

Congrats. Welcome to the club!
Ignore the negative comments from the peanut gallery. Home ownership is what you make of it

If you call a guy, make sure he can do the job- a referred job from someone you know is good.
A whole lot of "guys" charge a lot of money and do a half assed job. Also make sure they have workmans' insurance because your home owners doesn't cover them (and in New Orleans we had some certificates of workmans comp that had been forged intentionally which I only found out by checking with the Supposed insuror.
You are smarter than 90 percent of the guys out there, and you can read and reason. Some guys are wastes of money.

True. But don't it until you're settled down where you will likely stay for years.
I'm single no kids and 26 and saving up for when the family days come and I want to buy a house. Had to get the toys first though just bought a 65k dollar ski boat (yes I'm bragging). I've saved 16k so far so I'll have enough put back for a down payment by the time I do decide to start a family (at least 2 years from now).

Home ownership isn't that bad. I was lucky enough to buy my first house at 23. I lived in it for eight years, renovated both bathrooms, added a deck, and even had a new HVAC unit installed. I bought at a bad time, right before the market crashed and the bubble burst, but when I sold it in 2015, I still made a decent profit and got all of the money I put into it back.
You will take your lumps from time to time, but at least you won't be pouring money into renting a place that you will never possibly get back.

I just renovated one of our bathrooms, the dining room and built a sweet arse deck. Had a Halloween scary movie night with a bunch of friends (basically all couples) on a giant projector screen I bought. Also will be watching LSU Bama out there.
Home ownership is sweet.
