It has definitely declined in popularity. Two years ago they would have watch parties at different bars on Dickson, you walk in and the place is full of people sitting in silence, hanging on every word.
Now I don't even know anyone who watches it.

It literally has the highest ratings of any show on cable television.
EDIT: Oh, and number two on the list of highest rated cable shows is "Talking Dead," so I'm not really sure where you're getting the idea that the show is declining in popularity.

Sure it has a big following, but it used to be bigger. I knew a lot of people who watched it for the first two seasons and then stopped because season 3 was so bad.

It was expected to break its own record cable audience last night. So, while the ratings have been a little more volatile, saying "it used to be bigger" is probably inaccurate.

That's also simply not true: LINK
The show is more popular today than it has ever been, and by a long shot. Just because you and your friends don't watch it doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of people who do. And consider people like me, who didn't start watching until the fourth season. There are probably millions of people who jumped in well after the show began, just as there are plenty of people who quit watching it.

You mean there was a time it didn't suck?

TWD kicks arse, and these last 3 episodes have been some of the best.

TTD was awesome last night, too. Andrew Lincoln (real name is Andrew James Clutterbuck) was on along with one of the two writers for the show, Scott Gimple.
Lincoln is a more down-to-earth person than I had imagined. He seems to enjoy his role, even though his southern accent sucks.
Gimple offered a lot of insight about why the show is as it seems - cathartic. He said the rule for the show is that it changes completely every 8 episodes.

They ran by a fenced-off area that was littered with a bunch of flayed human bodies.
Also, that little sanctuary with the "Never Forget. Never Trust. We First, Always." was creepy. I'm excited to hear that back story.

Just how high can The Walking Dead go? The answer to that question might still be a ways off. The AMC drama wrapped its fourth season with yet another ratings record on Sunday night.
The Walking Dead averaged 15.7 million viewers, a finale best. That's just 400,000 viewers shy of the previous all-time record, fall's 16.1 million-strong premiere. And looking at the comparable finale a year ago, The Walking Dead jumped a whopping 3.2 million.
TV's top-rated show among the all-important adults 18-49, The Walking Dead also failed to disappoint in the demo. The episode averaged 10.2 million adults under 50, up nearly 2 million from a year ago and within a hair of fall's all-time high.
Yeah, totally losing popularity.

Yeah, it's just the cool thing on the Internet to act like you hate the show. And almost every one of these fools is still tuning in

This last half season was really slow and kinda sucked. Not sure if I will make it a point to watch it in the fall as I have been.

Agree it was slow but had a little more depth to it.

I disagree. Well, I agree that it was slow, but I don't think it sucked at all. In fact, I think the first half of the season was terrible (they're in the prison and the governor comes back - that was lazy writing IMO). With the group all separated it allowed for a more suspenseful and mysterious storyline. Granted, it wasn't as action packed as other moments in the show, but it was damn good TV.

The last half of the season has been some of the best in the entire arc IMO. Happy to see Rick and his beta back together and kicking arse. Darryl is easily the best character in the series.

Part of that is the acting. His character is good, and he plays the part well. It's not a huge stretch, but still.
So many of the other characters are poorly acted.
If you can get past the oh-so-fashionable zombie apocalypse emo hair.
Yes, I still watch it. But people still watch Troll 2.
TWD is not a good show, folks. Entertaining at times, and I did enjoy the last episode (but almost none of the others this season). It started out pretty great in season 1.

so what's the end-game for this show?... they just gonna wander around georgia for another few seasons until they all die off or people quit watching? Something's gotta happen right?... seems like most zombie apocolypse movies there's hope that the characters can overcome. walking dead isn't like that.

I'll admit I don't watch it but I also don't have any problem with anyone who likes it. I liked both the original Night of the Living Dead (1968) and the campy sequel Return of the Living Dead (1985).
The only thing I find incredibly annoying and also a bit strange is how fans of TWD or other "zombie apocalypse" shows want to write off and ridicule ghost/spirit related paranormal shows as silly and boring. I don't find TWD's popularity as weird as I do the relative lack of interest in what I consider highly underrated paranormal series like "Paranormal Witness" or "A Haunting". Is it TWD's drama format of a story with characters as opposed to the other two shows' documentary format of different unrelated stories that explains the difference in popularity or something else?

Just because twilight is popular doesn't mean there's a market for 'documentaries' about real life vampires. You are pretty foolish if you think there is any kind of link.
