I'm young- Millennial/Gen Z young- and I'm to the point where I assume someone my age is ignorant when I notice they have an inexplicable hatred for the Baby Boomer generation (born 1948-1964). Light jesting aside (such as the "OK, Boomer" meme) my generation seems hellbent on faulting the parental generation today's economic and social woes.

It's gotten to the point where it's ridiculous to hear this crap non-stop. Somebody being a certain age does not make them a bad person.

so what do you suggest? self-reflection and taking responsibility for your own station?

What is this, 1950?

Yes. Less blame, more action.

Well, if the boomers were kinder to the millennials I could see your point. Regrettably, that’s not the case.

Me neither. And for those who think we are working longer and keeping jobs from being available for younger workers, they have to want to work, which is part of the problem.

Life is not a gaming console people.

This is what every generation thinks when they are growing up, including the boomers.

The boomers used to love to say, "Don't hassle me man!"

They just wanted to turn on, tune in, and drop out. Boomers were really the first truly spoiled generation who were not worried about survival in the least.

This is the root of it in my opinion. American Boomers, statistically speaking, had more opportunity to build wealth over the course of their lifetimes than any other cohort in all of human history.

And after building all that wealth they spent every penny, and more, running themselves and our country into unfathomable levels of debt, while shipping massive amounts of jobs (opportunity) overseas.

And they did a large portion of that wealth-building not by growing, but by cutting costs. I.e. laying off and cutting salaries of younger employees, replacing them with lower paid workers in other countries, and "flattening" org charts thereby reducing advancement opportunities for subsequent generations.

The Boomers will be remembered as the generation that climbed the ladder handed to them by their parents, and then pulled it up and sold it for scrap instead of sending it back down for the next generation. This country will be lucky to survive the wake of the Baby Boomers and retain its status as the preeminant world economic power, and I'm not sure it will even be possible.

I agree with this and I am a boomer.

In their defense, the greatest generation (actually silent generation) really didn't know how to handle them growing up. They had way more outside influences than ever before and more opportunity outside the family.

It's definitely become more of a nuisance now than anything. I am pretty fed up with the victim mindset most Zoomers have adopted. They're living up to exactly what the Boomers accuse them of, and they don't even know it. Sad.

There are, as you said, a lot of cultural influences at work here. You can't just point and say "these people good" and "these people bad."

Raised with the rock hard belief that economic success will grow every year as steady as clockwork when that turned out to be wrong (for a variety of reasons) the Boomers fell back on find a way to make a profit.

Will we recover from that? I expect we will. People get all excited about calling out the Millennials but I remember when my generation, Generation X, was loudly proclaimed to be the worst generation to ever disgrace the US.

Instead we turned out to be really good at making money.

The kids will be alright. As much as that will cause some on here to throw a fit and start frothing at the mouth. They got dealt a bad hand but we will be OK.

If it is ribbing, no sweat. Genuine hate, then that is their problem, not mine. Hate will eventually hurt them worse than me. I laugh at it because I am old enough to know that people are individuals and not defined by when they were born or where they were born.

Bashing Boomers is ok. The only problem I have is with basic-bitch late Millennials and zoomers who have nothing better to say than "Ok Boomer".
