It'll probably get better, since they didn't really play too much pop music in CFB at all 25 years ago. LSU just started playing pop songs but they probably don't have a professional picking the music and worry that an exotic playlist would spoil the mood with all the old's at college games. "I'm From Louisiana" is great usually but damn on the 7th time they're playing it when you're down 21 to State...
But the bands' halftime performances are about as stiff and lifeless as they come.

The rap and EDM selections are always like ten years in the past. With all of the youtube channels, soundcloud, podcast streams, one would hope for a little more clarity in song selection. It's really out of touch.

I think there's a company/companies that are subbed out to control the "game day experience." With music, and in between play distractions included. It's mostly schools that aren't very traditional. But you're hearing piped in music in SEC stadiums like never before.

I wish LSU's band still played this.
Here's why they don't. :-(

The Gator band doesn't play the Dragnet theme after penalties because the students started chanting "move back you suck". It used to be "you can't do that". I'd say we are a lot tamer than LSU students lol.
And I hate to admit, and I hate it when we play them but Rocky top is a good song

They play music in the stadiums? I never pay attention to it.

The piped in music bothered me at first, but I no longer have an issue with it. We seem to have a pretty good guy (or gal or folks) making the selections. The fact that we use the Dropkick Murphys for our intro shows somebody is putting some thought into it and looking for something a little different. They have the standard stuff they play during the game, but they also seem to mix in a couple of new wrinkles each week.
I guess the reason I moved on from getting hung up on the piped in stuff was like you said, our band kept playing the same old songs over and over so it was a nice change of pace. To the band's credit, they've been mixing in some new material here lately. They even got off the normal halftime stuff this past weekend and threw in some "Frozen", which sounded good coming from a marching band.

I wish bands would be more creative than simply playing the Darth Vader theme, as if they are really intimidating. I do especially like the LSU third down on defense tradition of the Chinese Bandits. I like the specific themes for each down for LSU.

totally agree with you. I am old school. I like going to the game and experiencing the collegiate atmosphere, which includes the band and the fanfare.
The piped in music has made it feel like the NBA. I only watch the NBA for game 5, 6, and 7.

O Fortuna is the probably one of the most overused supposedly intimidating pieces in high school and college games.

I don't really pay a whole lot of attention to the music, BUT one time I was at Auburn's JH stadium and in the middle of the game, third quarter I think, they played Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer, and the whole damn crowd was singing. It was probably one of the most pitiful moments I have witnessed in football history. And they still lost that day. Why don't they paint the entire field pink and ban women from entering the stadium?

I don't mind them playing songs the fans can sing along too. That's a pretty cool tradition imo by Auburn. It's that they don't mix it up and the stadium music at time overpowers the band. I cannot fricking stand that god damn remix of zombie nation we play before kickoff. It's awful. LSUs tradition of bowing to the defense after stopping the opponent on 3rd down is insane.

A reporter asked Saban what he thought of the new the music selection that was played in the stadium, he had no idea what they were talking about.

hey i'm with you man. it's retarded. plus they play that shite right up until the qb starts to engage with the offense. it sucks.
I always liked it when people blamed a bad offensive play on the band because the played up until the snap.
