As civil rights activists call for a full-scale U.S. Department of Justice investigation into the fatal shooting of Emantic Fitzgerald “EJ” Bradford Jr. by a Hoover police officer inside the Riverchase Galleria, federal officials in Birmingham said they have been involved since the beginning.

“This matter has been, and continues to be, under review by various civil rights components within the Department of Justice since these events occurred,” U.S. Attorney Jay Town told AL.com Friday. “The recent release of a 10-week investigation by the State of Alabama is now a part of that review by those components. Any further comment would be inappropriate at this time.”

I really don’t understand why anyone would want to go out on Black Friday anymore (of course I never did anyways).

I leave my home full of family and relaxation for malls full of lunatics fighting over things for what? Discounts?

I can wait for cyber Monday or just pay full price. Nothing is worth me going out in that craziness

Birmingham is going to be a riot. I can’t wait for the full story of this investigation to unfold

I can tell you exactly how this will turn out. He will be made a martyr, but it will be revealed that he has a long history of drug dealing, was expelled from school and the military, and there will be two sides split among debating whether he is a murdered hero, or a villain who got what he deserved.

Sucks that the focus will be the place where I live.

Has a short history of running around in public with a firearm displayed, during a shooting. It's unfortunate, but any of the other shite is irrelevant.

He's a guy that's been in the military and trained in the use of guns, except somehow now after he was in some place at the wrong time along with lots of other people. He's the bad guy. Good old prejudice. You don't even know the guy.

It was even said there were several other people with their weapons out besides the police.

When this first broke originally all the information on that first thing they sent out was "Active shooter at the galleria. Multiple injured. Several shoppers seen fleeing with guns drawn"

I've never seen someone that posts on FB with themselves holding handguns and shooting birds in their photos as a quality individual.

I just scrolles all down his Facebook and there wasnt one picture of him flipping the birds

Would you say the same about this family holding handguns in a Facebook picture?

And wtf does it even matter if he wasnt a "quality individual"??? You think people deserve to die just for being a little trashy or a bit of a douche??

All that matters is that EJ Bradford did nothing wrong that night. An innocent man is dead and it's a tragedy.

You can legally carry a gun in your hand in public in the state of alabama? Gonna need a statute on this one.

Sorry. He's throwing up what appears to be gang signs plus a gun and his friend is shooting the bird.

That family looks trashy.

It leads me to believe that he probably would still be living if he had made better choices that evening.

This is speculation and is not a fact at this time.

Right now all I know is there was a botched police report and a thug.

What better choices could he have made? Literally dozens of other shoppers drew their guns and ran for exits, which by what witnesses have been saying is exactly what he was doing.

It was a dumb decision and it cost him his life. When you have a gun you're willing to put yourself in harms way.

Several people are saying it wasn't even in his hand, but on his hip.

And what about all the dozens of other shoppers who drew their guns? Should we go round them up and arrest them?

If you were carrying and were in an active shooter situation you're trying to tell me you wouldn't draw your gun bc you'd be worried about the laws? Gtfo. What's even the point of owning a handgun if not for situations like this?

If they broke the law then yes.

Depends on how active the shooting was near me.

Not to walk around with a gun on your side in a crowded mall. The mall has rules against having a gun inside.
