That is literally the sentiment from the white privilege movement.

"After I realized the extent to which men work from a base of unacknowledged privilege, I understood that much of their oppressiveness was unconscious."

Essentially, they're not conscious enough to partake in a conversation about race...

Specifically because of gender and skin color.

And pot meets kettle, what, do blacks get ostracized for disagreeing with white men? Do they get called racist for talking about President Bush? I don't think so.

Not really although some of the stuff Kanye West said about Bush I think it was pretty safe to assume he was a racist but I don't think anyone really called him out on it.

And the thing is: I don't like President Bush, I similarly don't like President Obama (at least not as much as I did at first) and I do consider myself a socialist to some degree.

In regards to race, I think it's simply dangerous to keep talking about it when it becomes less and less marginalized as time goes on -- and not because of conversation but because those who were inherently racist (as in: I don't like the black man solely for the fact of him being black) are disappearing altogether.

Now it's more of an age struggle.

Zimmerman (just as an example) seemed to have a deeper rift with youth than he did with skin color. You may very well ascribe certain cultures to blacks, but most people hate sagging whites just as much as they do sagging blacks, Latinos or Asians.

Barring Kanye West, was there a significant media suggestion that a black man disagreeing with president Bush was racist?

I can't remember anyone making that charge.

I think its pretty safe to say that Kanye West is a fricking idiot. Skin color not relevant.

To be fair, the only people really trying to make this assertion are not to be taken seriously. I seen MSNBC go on a full fledged assault on the white people who don't vote for Obama is racist and it's pretty sad but I would hope most democrats don't think this way and I doubt they do. It's a shitty trend but I would hold that to a small minority of our population holding this belief.

Why? Yeah, he's ridiculous, but so are folks who would use racism as a reason to discredit anyone's politics.

And I wasn't talking just about the media.

That's exactly what I was saying above, unless I am misinterpreting you.

I think it's stupid to say that someone who disagrees is racist if their skin color is different.

Perhaps this experience was more anecdotal? I've searched online to great length to find a single instance of it being referenced, but of course all that comes up is Mr. West and his insanity.

Yeah we agree there

Like I said, I was more talking in general than major news stories. Didn't mean anything beyond that tbh.

There you have it, a black man agrees with me.

Automatic validation.

Still gotta wait for BHP and Carolina to weigh in on what you said, though, so beware this thing has the potential to swing, right?

One black is sufficient, I've watched enough Fox News to know this.

I'm just glad there's been no black on black racism.

"Uncle Tom", to me, is one of the most offensive terms out there.

Of course it is.

On the other hand, when a family member in semo (who has voted democratic in every election until 2008) said "I'm not going to vote for no n*****", I assumed he was racist and voted based on skin color, not policy.

I live in Missouri, though. I only count for 3/5ths remember?

Meh, Fox isn't any worse than the others IMO.

I don't watch the news though.

So this is offensive to you?

Honestly, the more I look at different news outlets (I'm a news Junky) the more I see that they're all just as biased.

This is actually comparable to white privilege in some ways. A matter of invalidating your opinion because you don't agree with a certain ideology or premise.

I wouldn't go quite that far with it but I get where you're headed, if that makes sense

Yeah, I think that's ridiculous too. Just like I'm registered Democratic, I was offended when Sarah Palin was picked hoping to sway the female vote.
