Do you believe low income folks should be given free internet by the gov't?

Does the government own any infrastructure that would even make this possible?

Should the Internet be a right or privilege?

shite's in the Constitution. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Free Internet.

The lazy will soon destroy this country, and in its current state, it's well deserved.

See you fricks on the other side.

Sure, dial-up only.

It's hard to apply for a lot of jobs in person these days. Most companies want you to apply online.

Seriously, no. It's a privilege. Just like every single thing that makes our lives easier is a privilege. Even clean drinking water is a freaking privilege.

If you consider the Internet as an in-home public library, well yeah. I don't think it should be based on income, I just think if it's doable, do it for everyone. What will then transpire is you will pay for content, not the portal.

no, but price should be lower for everybody. cable/broadband industry in the US has become a monopoly. developed countries in Europe and Asia pay $20 per month for much faster broadband while Americans pay $60 for archaic broadband speed.

The least the govt could do is give me a reach-around every once in a while. I'd like some free high speed, too, you fricking evil thieves.

Google will change this. frickers like AT&T and Comcast will either drop costs to match or go out of business.

I upvoted, though I don't really think it should be free. I think it should be much, much more affordable. I have just bare bones internet with AT&T and it's almost $100 per month.

Would be nice if Google Fiber ever gets available across the country. Their basic service is free in some markets, and only around $50 per month in others. There is a $300 construction fee however.

I'd gladly let a little of my tax money pay for Internet in lower income areas if it meant our school system would start sending kids with major behavior issues out of the door with an eSchool username and password. The district here uses the "well we HAVE to give them access to an education" bullshite line in not kicking out kids who have had multiple rounds in alternative schools and etc. Wifi in those areas would nip that shite in the bud.

And you could probably do some of it without the government paying for it. Our west end area just received wifi capable garbage cans on their street corners from a private corp grant.

Would the benevolent govt give all in the house hold a computer?
What is the expected increase of computer theft? Would the theif only grab a computer, or the big screen tv and other things.
