Well as others have said, we all go through tough spots. This too shall pass. Perhaps like a kidney stone... but it will pass.

My answer is going to be a bit odd. I get every day off if I want to take it. Because I work online for myself. I can take a day off... but it means I don't get paid. So I tend to work almost every day of the week. Some days just an hour or two, some days ten or twelve.

With my inner ear imbalance this is how I put food on the table. Its that or try to get on disability and I'm not willing to go that route just yet.

The important thing, the vital thing, is to carve out some free time for yourself. Yeah. Life can be a grind. Take some time to go to the titty bar. Watch a football game. Fap to a 20 man midget gang bang... whatever gets you to relax.

The board helps keep me sane. And the midget gang bangs.

At least you're working man. You're not a failure. Maybe you're not where you want to be, but you're contributing and trucking on. Don't be the only attendant at your pitty party, just keep your head up, keep a good attitude, and don't take life too seriously. You're doing better than half the population at least.

Keep grinding away and something will open for you. A good friend of mine from the Navy couldn’t seem to get his head straight after discharging and ended up at a shite, entry level retail job. He hated it, but he was reliable and a hard worker. An older gentleman would always come in there and see him busting his arse and generally being the only worker there that seemed to give a damn about how he carried himself. That guy gave him a shot at his company and my friend is now a regional GM at 32 making 100k+. With weekends off. Good things always happen to good people. Keep your head up man and it will work out.

Does this place count? If so, then no.

Those are damn good jobs. They are brutally hard jobs if you are working the labor end but damned good jobs regardless. My FIL worked for Southern and later Norfolk Southern most of his life and was able to provide a good life for his wife and children despite starting out as an unskilled laborer. He told me that when the Southern Railroad/Norfolk Southern job came along he was working as a butcher's apprentice and he'd just gotten married. When he saw the difference in pay he didn't need to think twice.

When he died his railroad family went out of their way to make sure everything was taken care of and tbh, we know that even though it's a few years on since his passing his brothers will go out of their way to help in any way they can with whatever comes up.

If someone can get on as a crewman they'd be crazy to pass it up. The pay is good but the family aspect just blew my mind.

A lot of the old timers at our shop (Chattanooga) talk about how focused Southern was. I remember back years ago seeing Southern locomotives coming through south Ga where I grew up. Back then they really focused on quality repairs and releases but now not so much. If any of you guys hear anything posted on this board then let it be this....stay off the tracks and off the trains. Those areas are so incredibly dangerous it’s hard to describe. Our shop is one of the last ones on he system that takes up a sick board for guys that are out sick. Southern really was a special railroad but since NS bought them out it’s all about the shareholders now.

I get weekends of if i work in town. If i travel to west tx or valley region of tx i don't get any days off. But my checks are are almost 3 times as much when i travel including per diem. I always never spend my actual checks i spend my per diem money.
