#1 I agree. Scholarships should be for four years as long as the student-athlete makes grades.
#2 and #3 The schools should be the ones providing risk and health insurance. In fact, top players can already get risk insurance through their school. The NCAA can (and does) give guidelines on how and what to do on insurance. But for the NCAA to control all this will make the program like the post office or the DMV.

Would eliminate need to pay players "under the table".

5 star kid could start a web site and receive advertising revenue, or sell autographed pictures for a few thousand dollars a pic with no limit.

Sound like a great idea.

It's as close as we're gonna get, and if compensation is started, you can kiss THAT goodbye.

That's not a bad thing.

You do realize the bigger the pool the better the negotiation on premiums.

Exxon can haggle better rates by volume than the local gas station can.

bullshite....unless you want college athletics to look like the NFL,NBA or the NHL. Once the door is legally cracked, money will take over the game....money takes over everything it touches.

I don't watch the NFL or NBA, but what's wrong with the NHL?

There's not a scintilla of loyalty, concern or anything else pertaining to "team" (outside of money) when it comes to pro sports. Professionalism kills all that.

Well that's completely false.

But it seems like you're expecting a lot of loyalty from players that had no say in where they went and can be traded without their consent.

Until people "invested" in you start asking you to do shady shite... like shaving points. Amateurism is also there to protect young adults from this.

I'm not expecting anything from pro athletes, but I DO from amateur players.

I'm still waiting to hear why I wouldn't want college sports to look like the NHL.

Do NHL players have agents?
Do NHL players ever become free agents?
Do NHL players negotiate their salaries with the owners?...if so, do NHL players' agents shop them to other teams?
Are most NHL players more concerned about their compensation that the team's success?

If none of that bothers you when considering having professionalism becoming a part of college athletics, then what the hell.

Yep.

Eventually. They aren't UFA until they are 27 or have been in the league 7 years.

I think it's usually with the GMs.
quote:

Sometimes. Depends on the player and the situation.

Depends on the player. I think most players would accept under market value to make the team a contender.

I will never be bothered by a player signing autographs for money, making appearances at car dealerships for money, etc. Making money off your name will never bother me.

You're naive if you think that it would end there.

I don't care if it doesn't end there. That's just the minimum that it should be.

Then you don't care whether amateur athletics endure or not...you're entitled to an opinion.

I think I've been pretty consistent on that.
