God Bless everyone adversely affected by the storm.

God Bless all the volunteers that rush in to help.

The federal government can only do so much.

I have witnessed first hand what volunteers and faith based groups do to help.

They devote days, weeks, and months helping people in need.

Do you need water or food?

How can we help you?

We can have a crew here this week to tear out your Sheetrock.

On and on...

It’s a shame the media doesn’t report more of these stories.

But these volunteers don’t seek recognition anyway.

The true devastation is what happens weeks after the storm and the media are long gone.

They wouldn't dare show that the country is not nearly as divided as they portray it.

they do report the stories that's how i know who they are. If they covered them 24/7 all the time then the Cajun Navy wouldn't be able to do its job. It will be on the 5:30 national news a few times and 60 minutes, dateline and those type will have a 10-20 special in a few weeks. But yes as a whole they don't seek recognition. The tragedy will be when homeowner's insurance doesn't cover what they are supposed to and the enormous amount of time they take processing claims

The Cajun Navy is what America is all about and there are endless other groups doing similar work. Their intentions are pure and they don't care about your race, background, religion, or politics. They truly just want to help.

Lion, you think someone takes off of work, buys tons of supplies, tows a boat hundreds of miles, and then places themselves in harms way just for recognition? That's quite the cynical view.

Maybe someone will do something nice for you one day and then you might understand why these folks do this.

Both of these statements are 100 percent false. Good thing the volunteers do though.

On the Weather Channel yesterday, there was an interview with a local Charleston fishing charter guide who was identifying as a member of the cajun navy. I thought it was odd.

If a Cajun Navy rescue isn't on Facebook, did it really happen?

I will preface my comments by saying that most of them do it out of the goodness of their hearts.

But man, there are a ton of them that are facebook living the entire time they are driving there and also while making rescues. Now tell me that they aren't trying to get some recognition.

The statement said, "doesnt seek recognition." Not "just for recognition." Big difference.

Let me ask you this- Do they not deserve recognition?

Y’all act like it’s a selfish act that they want a pat on the back. They’re driving 100s of miles in a hurricane to go and try to rescue people.

They deserve recognition.

They do deserve recognition, but I don't need to see 30 facebook live updates of you patting yourself on the back.

Ok, maybe I didn’t make myself clear.

Yes the Cajun gets recognized and some others do also and the media reports on this.

BUT.
I’m telling you if you did not live through an experience like this, you have no idea of the hundreds of people that come in from all over the country.

Mostly faith based groups.

They do not seek recognition and believe me they aren’t recognized.

They have plans set up in advance for when something happens.

They have trucks and warehouses full of supplies and volunteers ready to go.

It is an amazing sight to see.

Watch how many private companies come through with supplies....
Yes they seek publicity, but why not?

The faith based groups don’t.

And I’m no holy roller, believe me!.

I don’t care if they advertise their efforts via a full-page spread in the NYT or on the largest roadside billboard known to man.

They’re a volunteer, NON-GOVERNMENTAL group that uses private boats to help folks during tough times.

That’s all I need to know about ‘em.

They bailed out many of our neighbors last year, and I’ll forever be grateful for it.

Side note: I purchased a CN tee last year, post-the storm, and it’s become my favorite piece of grunge wear. I’ll support those baws any way I can.

You start this thread off by saying ...

quote:

God Bless everyone adversely affected by the storm.

God Bless all the volunteers that rush in to help.

Later in this thread you throw down ...

quote:

Oh...one more thing...

Why are so many of you figs on Facebook anyway?

I know .. I know .. you have a gay cousin so it's perfectly fine for you to throw down a homophobic slur. Right? You're still a good Christian man who truly wishes the blessing of your god upon all people...
