You can get Buffalo Trace in Ga or TN for $28 a pop most days. Stupid that it's on allocation in Alabama. Eagle Rare is still rare in TN and GA.

I went to Bourbonham on Sunday in Birmingham at The Club. Awesome time. Had a pour of The King of Kentucky from a $2300 bottle of bourbon. Bad thing is I was already lit so I couldn't tell much difference in it and the rest I had that night.

I had the Smoke and Toast on Sunday as well. So smooth.

I highly recommend Bourbonham 2023 for y'all. Tickets will probably open up in Oct for $80.

Oh, Mellow Corn is awesome. Hard to find in Alabama as well. Attala, Gasden and sometimes Pelham. But a great pour for under $20.

Weller is almost impossible to find in Alabama. Some resalers have it, but not the ABC unless it's in the lottery.

Son's inlaws are going to Kentucky / Lexington late April & he is a sorta collector. He keeps drinking his good stuff. But I want to surprise him for his birthday & have his inlaws pick up some of the quality brands listed here. Don't want them to ask them to drive all over the state, so would appreciate the names / locations ( cities ) of several stores that are more than likely to have the quality brands.

Revisiting this thread, had an epiphany today. I think I’ve been sleeping on Four Roses. I had a single barrel recently and currently sipping on a small batch. These guys are putting out some high quality juice. Early in my “bourbon journey” I would have said it’s too rye heavy/spicy. Now a couple years into it, I think I’m about to make small batch my daily. 94 proof, easy to find, and great price point around $30. /rant

Tldr: don’t know why I didn’t drink four roses sooner.

One could find Buffalo Trace very easily a few years ago. Now it's nearly impossible. Don't get me started on Eagle Rare. That shite is like finding a unicorn in the wild. I will say I started buying Four Roses Small Batch Select and it is fricking incredible.

I disagree with literally all three of your points.

-I routinely see BT at our local stores and even out local gas station. It’s almost always on the shelf with Elijah Craig Small Batch.

-Eagle Rare, slightly harder to get but not difficult if you want it.

-4R SmB Select is average at best and really only drinkable after it airs for a bit. Four Roses Single Barrel especially something like OESV or a high tier is so much better. Heck regular 4R SmB is a better drink and significantly cheaper.

I’m not in the market to get banned, but if you look out there everything you want can be found.

Bottles you can realistically get that won’t break the bank
-Elijah Craig Small Batch
-Four Roses Single Barrel
-Four Roses Small Batch
-Buffalo Trace
-Weller SR (I’m not big on wheat myself)
-Angels Envy
-Blade and Bow
-Wild Turkey Rare Breed
-Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel
-1792 Small Batch
-Knob Creek 9
-Michter’s Small Batch
-Widow Jane 10
-Larceny Small Batch

Slightly harder to get but still sub $100
-Elijah Craig Barrel Proof
-Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel
-Elijah Craig Private Label
-Eagle Rare
-Woodford Reserve Double Oakes
-1792 Single Barrel
- 1792 Bottled in Bond
-Heaven Hill 7
-EHT Small Batch
-Blanton’s (I know people love or hate it)
-Michter’s Single Barrel
-Russel Reserve 10 Year
-Remus 5
-Smoke Wagon
-Weller 107
-Larceny BP
-Old Forrester Single Barrel Barrel Proof

Tough and expensive but still doable ($300)
-Elmer T. Lee
-Stagg Jr
-EHT Single Barrel
-Garrison Brothers
-Elijah Craig 18
-Weller 12

I won’t even touch the unicorns like Pappy or BATC’s etc.

Full disclosure - All good bottles, not my go to’s
-Wild Turkey 101
-Woodford Reserve
-Makers 45
-Bulleit
-Basil Hayden

There was a cat who played for the Bear at Alabama who had a family distillery in KY going back a century or two. Great guy and really loved this cat (no homo) and his advice to me was drink what YOU like and hell with the rest of it.

That is sound advice. Take beer as an example. I've had expensive craft beers and I've had cheap beer a plenty. By and large I'll take the cheap beer just based on taste alone.

Beer can be different

PBR in a keg is great
PBR in a bottle or can is not as good

Pearl beer back in the 70's and 80's was great, not as good now.

It doesn’t have near the flavor that the green label has.

Clyde Mays is also a good one.

I travel to Georgia frequently and get Weller, Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace just about every trip. Usually same price or a little cheaper than ABC.

But be sure to sign up for the ABC lottery if those are still going on.

Was just in California last week and you could get Buffalo Trace anywhere. It was in every grocery store or liquor store I went into. They were selling it for $25 a bottle. God I hate controlled liquor States.
