I grew up in the country with country parents. We had lots of stuff for breakfast, including pork chops, salmon and biscuits, etc.

Probably biscuits, but I'm not really keen on either. I like a really well made biscuit, but there are a lot of shitty biscuits out there.

Mary B's are fantastic, and Hardee's biscuits are pure heaven; only Bojangles does biscuits as well

I can't get my wife to fix biscuits since we discovered Mary B...and I don't even mind!
She makes a dynomite skillet of cornbread...got her mama's skillet when she died, but still can't match her mama even though she claimed to use the exact same recipe and technique....go figure.

They'd usually take something like a biscuit and piece of ham to the field with them for the midday, and have a hot supper at night...too bad there weren't any McDonald's around back then.

Just left Bogue's for lunch (awesome meat & 3 in Bham)
They have butterbeans on the menu today
Dipping cornbread in butterbean juice is a culinary delight that everyone needs to experience

Biscuits. Both are hard to do right but cornbread is the harder of the two and a bad biscuit can be drowned in enough gravy to where it no longer matters.
That said, find that one in a million that can do cornbread right and you've got something special.

The thing about cornbread is even if you've got the right recipe, you've got to have a seasoned cast iron skillet, THEN the magical "experience" factor becomes involved...it's probably easier to make a hydrogen bomb than a good skillet of cornbread.

Real old timers in the South eat cornbread and milk.

You crumble it up in a glass and pour sweet milk OR buttermilk over it...helluva snack!

Not a damn thing wrong with a glass of cornbread and milk.
Biscuits get my vote.

Depends on what the rest of the meal is...obviously biscuits for breakfast...if you haven't, try crumbling up REAL cornbread in a glass of sweet or buttermilk....damn sure fittin!
