There are a decent amount of categories and even regional winners but there have only been about 30 chefs and 30 restaurants to win overall top award. I am not sure why Louisiana folks feel the need to huff and puff so much about their food and shite on everywhere else for having good food as well.

We "huff and puff" so much about our food because it's something we do exceptionally well. We're known internationally for it and it's a great source of pride. And yeah, we can get a little testy when people act like that isn't the case (see the first few pages of the thread and people intentionally trolling, for example).

We don't shite on other places with good food -- we celebrate it and if I'm ever in the Birmingham area, I will check out the restaurant. But don't confuse shitting on other places with good food for defending our world renown food scene when some take needless pot shots at it.

Good burgers, but you were so very close to Old Greenbrier BBQ and missed it. It's a 90 mile round trip for me and we go once a week for either lunch or dinner.

Sorry , when you say or write the word Buffett, the establishment is automatically eliminated from consideration.

Southern living picked the top ten restaurants in the south for 2018. Looks like a good top ten.

NOLA is elite. But if A&M brings the entire state of Texas, then Houston is the best food destination in the SEC.

Miami and New Orleans are tied for second.

If I knew how to do that bow down thing I would do it for you’re response!

Another thing many folks don’t understand is that my mother and many others could cook better than many of these “so called chefs”.

I like to think I know my way around the kitchen and many guys do now.

Just check out the food board.

One last comment.

There may be 25 better restaurants than Commanders Palace in New Orleans.

And yes.
We do celebrate food and drink wherever it may be.

As it should be.

Some of my favorites in the city don't appear on any national list. They are celebrated by locals just the same and they put out damn good food consistently.

But my go to when people visit is Commander's simply for the entire experience, but I generally don't eat there otherwise.

Agreed....

Commanders is also celebrated by locals.

I meant nothing disparaging towards Commanders.

I always enjoy it.

Outstanding for large parties also.

So you see people shitting on Louisiana cuisine in the first few pages but don’t see the louuisana folks and even yourslelf to a degree shitting on Birmingham and Alabama? Lol.

Y’all see someone else being talked about as good then immediately say not as good as us. The area has great food but it’s just one of many places around the world. There can be many.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Atlanta, it is certainly in the SEC footprint. Heck it probably has 10 or more restaurants as good as any other cities in the rest of the SEC footprint, simply because of how many choices there are. In my opinion Bones is the best there is!!

The negative comments about Highlands Bar and Grill on here are moronic. It is obvious that these people don't know about the restaurant and / or have never eaten there. It is a ten time nominee for the James Beard award and finally won it this year for best restaurant in the US, and included the James Beard award for the best pastry chef in Dolester Miles. I have eaten there innumerable times and it is a southerners bucket list meal IMO. Excellent french/southern cuisine and excellent service and atmosphere.

Please quote me where I shite on Birmingham to any degree. I didn't. In fact, I'm pretty sure I said if I'm ever in the area, I want to check out that restaurant.

The thread is about the best restaurant in SEC country. Is Nola not in SEC country? How dare someone bring New Orleans restaurants up in a thread about the best restaurant in SEC country. The nerve.

The first LSU fans, and an OM fan, said they believe there are better restaurants in Nola. It was an AU fan that got sensitive and started making pot shots at LSU fans.
