Anything to do in Tulsa?

Tulsa looks like Bham from the road.

I'd recommend looking for a bourbon barrel stout.

I'll be in Beeville tomorrow.

Its actually rather clean and decent for a city that size.

Brookside or some such shite is the hipster hood, but I haven't been there in like 10 years.

Cain's Ballroom, airport, and Utica Square shopping district are about all I am familiar with.

Well what do you like or want to know about the city?

I've lived in both S. Tulsa and Broken Arrow. I can point you to restaurants and maybe give some tips on getting around the city. It's super easy. It's a grid, there's lots of road work around town though. I moved back to NWA a few months ago for a job.

Must sees in Tulsa? Negative. There are none.


Cool spots? There's a few. a few.

Agreed. Tulsa is OK. That's a good description. Its not bad as far as cities go, but its too small to have anything cool, and big enough to have a little bit of ghetto, but not much.

The best thing I ever did in Tulsa were the two Art museums there, one's the Gilcrese, can't think of the other at the moment. Its a very easy city to get around because of the grid.

ETA: the other museum is the Philbrook. Cool Italianate mansion.

Here's a few of my little hidden spots.

On 51st, just West of Memorial is a place called "Steak Stuffers USA" it's a cheese steak joint that's been there since the 1950's or 60's. It's legit. Here's the kicker, only open M-F, 11-8pm. Ran by the family still, they're old, they don't give a frick. Building's been paid off for 40+ years, they work because they like what they do, not because they have to.


In the Blue Dome District which is just NE of downtown go to the Hunt Club or McNellie's. If you're in town on Fri. the 21st the Klondike 5 is playing at the Hunt Club. They're a cheap version of the jamgrass bands you'd see in Fayetteville. If you were in town on the 26th I'd say go see the Ben Miller Band at Cain's.


Brookside is a good bar district. It runs parallel to the River on Peoria St. Starts around 33rd and the bars end about 41st. There's a Whole Foods on 41st and Peoria, get you a couple choco chip cookies there. There's a ton of restaurants on Brookside too. A mix of everything.

Utica Square is a the higher end shopping area in midtown, 21st is kind of the demarcation line. I lived in the 21st and Harvard area. Burger Street has a decent burger, but Ron's Chili is kind of a local favorite. Braum's is probably the best fast food burger outside of In n' Out.

Steaks; Fleming's is in Utica Square it's a chain ran by the Outback group. Other's love Mahogany Prime, I'm a bit partial to Doe's.

Another good pub is Baker St., one of my good buddies from the day is the GM there, It's on Memorial north of 71st. 71st from Woodland Hills Mall going East into Broken Arrow is full of chain restaurants, that whole area has anything you could desire. However, there's a chicago style pizza place called Marley's that's pretty good. Gusano's franchise in Tulsa shut down, but there's a place called Infuzion that took over the space it's supposedly pretty good too. It's at 101st and Mingo. On 71st (Kenosha in BA) is a pizza chain called Top That! they're all large personal size pizzas that's pretty good as well and under $8 for a quick lunch.


BBQ: Don't even frick around go to Oklahoma Joe's it's right by the Bass Pro Shop off of the BA Expressway. The mexican restaurant by Bass Pro is pretty good too. Tulsa's Tex-Mex choices are nowhere near as good as OKC's.


Cherry St. (15th) is also a bar district and there's some restaurants there too. Doe's Eat Place is located in that area. Doe's and Jamil's are the better steaks in Tulsa, though Jamil's service can be shittastic.


Don't go on the North side there's nothing there. It's the dark side of town, but it's still not terribly ghetto like other cities. 61st and Lewis by Southern Hills and ORU is by far the worst area of Tulsa.

Never been, heard they had a really nice zoo though.
