Nah Alabama has beach and mountains . I’d say Mississippi is the worst . Louisiana would be without the culture and food

Gulf Shores is pretty nice

It’s a crime infested shithole. Mobile (side note) also smells like a combination of wet socks and a crawl space full of kitchen grease.

You obviously have never taken a good public toilet dump at a Buc ee’s. And seeing that Alabama has more locations than any other Southern state besides Texas, that alone makes us the second best.

I thought everyone on here always pointed to Mississippi and Louisiana as the worst.

Their attempt at Mardi Gras is pathetic and everyone knows that Mardi Gras should only be celebrated in Louisiana.

Mobile had Mardi Gras before Louisiana. Louisiana just took it and blew it way out of proportion.

I wouldn't bet on that. Tennessee is red as frick and it's not going to change for a long, long time.

Here's an interesting little something or another that I believe is actually true. I'd have to gooble it though.

Had Al Gore won his former Tennessee Congressional District. He would've been President of the United States.

On the subject though of backwards lunacy. Nothing comes close to a Tennessee or Arkansas hillbilly. Not even a Louisiana, mud duck coonass.

Hillbillies are legit, fricked up people. Read Child of God. Since that book was written, nothing's changed in the State of Tennessee.

In fairness to the state of Alabama, the blitz of bank mergers in the 2000s, an accounting scandal, and consolidation in the healthcare industry cost Alabama a lot of Fortune 500 headquarters back in the 2000s.

20 years ago Birmingham, along with Omaha, Nebraska had the highest number of Fortune 500 headquarters based on their respective populations than any two cities in the country.

Back then Birmingham and Omaha had more Fortune 500 headquarters than a handful of much larger metro areas. Back in 2003 Birmingham had the following Fortune 500 headquarters (in no particular order)...

1) Healthsouth Corporation
2) Caremark Corporation
3) Saks Inc (parent company of Saks 5th Avenue,Off 5th, Parisians, McRaes, and Proffits department stores)
4) Protective Corporation
5) Regions Bank
6) Southtrust Bank
7) AmSouth Bank
8) Compass Bank

In addition to those, you had a Fortune 500 headquarters in Huntsville (SCI Systems) and the 2nd largest video rental company in the country (behind Blockbuster) Movie Gallery which oddly enough was based in Dothan, AL.

Birmingham before the massive consolidation of the banking industry in the 2000s was home to the most Fortune 500 bank headquarters in the entire country, two major Fortune 500 healthcare corporations, and one of the largest retail corporations (Saks Inc)

Alabama as a state obviously trails states like Florida, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee in growth but so does every other state in the country with the exception of 2 or 3 states considering those states are some of the fastest growing in the country.

As for being the original home of Mardi Gras, you can thank the state of Alabama for making for something everyone now takes for granted an official holiday as Alabama was the first state in the country to officially recognize and celebrate Christmas as a state holiday ????
