Cool folks in Tulsa. They even dropped bombs on black people between the wars.

Both Port Arthur and Orange, TX are worse than any city in America. It's not even debatable.
I lived off of Gulfway Dr in Port Arthur for 2 summers. That was an interesting experience

Also, having lived in all 3, I'll take the Port Arthur area over NEAR or NELA. There is a lot more to do here than NEAR, and its not quite as impoverished as NELA.

Hazard, KY
Wow. I didn't think I'd ever come across anyone else who had been to Hazard. Visited an in-law at the UK hospital there. You could barely get in the place with all the smoking patients OUT FRONT and we rode up in the elevator with a guy who had spiders tattooed all over his face.

Or ate at the asian place in town
Wasn't an Asian restaurant, but the place we stopped still had smoke trapped in there from the 70's and there were a couple of guys eating with no shirts on.

The downtown area is like Beirut in the 80's. Broken windows everywhere, almost 100% abandoned crumbling buildings, and ZERO people or cars. I think the only occupied buildings were the police headquarters and city hall. Oh, and maybe a post office. They used to pull chain link gates across Procter St. in the afternoon after the courthouse and post office closed to block off access to the downtown area. Pretty amazing for a city with over 50k people.

Memphis TN and Jackson MS have to be in this list or it's fake news.

I remember Phenix City, AL being a dump when I went there to visit family when I was younger.

Flint, Michigan, easily worst one for me.

This one is legitimate. The people saying things like Memphis, Montgomery, and Tulsa, have clearly never ventured far from their homes. Especially Tulsa. It's not bad at all, just a little boring.
I'd also like to nominate Trenton, NJ. It's one of the most blighted places I've ever been.

Yes, we're biased to choosing southern cities.
