Tolkien relied on typical hero archetypes outside of Frodo and Sam. His world and it's legendarium are unparalleled in fiction.

I can agree with that. I'm just hoping her storyline is getting ready to take off again. It was pretty damn solid for the first half of Storm of Swords and I'd give anything for her to get back to that level of badass.
Then she went and put the peen on a pedestal.

As soon as she learns to ride a damn dragon she'll be fine...

When I'm reading Daenerys chapters, I'm just picturing a more fantasy version of the Hoover Administration. Not all that exciting :/

I know it started to get shite on a lot for books 7-10 but the Wheel of Time has the most amazing description and history. My favorite series ever.

Hopefully George really starts ramping up the action or we won't get to see the resolution before he dies. He's only a couple doughnuts shy of becoming the real life version of Yezzan zo Qaggaz

What pisses me off is he keeps releasing chapters from Winds of Winter.
Just fricking finish it already Fat Man. It's obviously at least halfway written at this point.

he was on Conan last night. His last book is going to be 1500 pages? Dafuq??

He said on Conan that he was writing faster. I think he will make the book ending completely different than what he has told the HBO producers he has planned if they beat him to it though.
ETA: When they beat him to it.

Great series but without the Silmarillon and LOTR we probably aren't even having this discussion. It's mind blowing how deep Tolkien's creativity ran.

Thank God. George wouldn't be as humble as Robert Jordan and let another writer finish his work considering his stance on fan fiction.

Don't say that. I keep hoping George is trolling us and he's gonna be like, "Winds of Winter out next month lol idk noobs"

Can't deny that. Everyone gets caught up in the darker fantasy now and I feel like people forget sometimes hat Tolkeins fantasy was completely original when he wrote it.
I wouldn't put WoT above LoTR on an all time list. It is just the series I have read over and over and over again. Probably read the first 9 or 10 books like 7 times each, the last few count down from there and have read the final book twice.
It is just so complex with so many facets with each their own history and political structure anything you could possible think of. I still catch things I missed evey other time through.

If he's writing at the pace he was at for the first three books, it should be done towards the end of this year.

Like Belle said just finish the god damn book. frick the book signings and conventions just give me resolution. Hell let the Doom of Valyria kill everyone on Westeros if you can't think of anything else but just finish it.
