Terrible list. While I may not like the Vols, I could not disagree more with number 1 on the list. Love the state.
They got MO at #3 which is good, we native Missourians don't need any more fricks showing up at the door step.

Exactly. They have a picture of Nashville in the article. It is Memphis that helps to boost those crime rankings, especially the murder rate.

I didn't realize Mississippi ceased being a state.

When I was going through the list and got to #2 I was sad that Mississippi was the worst since I hadn't seen it on the list. I was wrong though

Agree. I wish Kentucky was higher. Too many refugees from Michigan, Ohio and other Rust Belt states heading south. I envy Tennessee.

MO needs all the outside help it can get. Narcissism and incompetence prevails up here.

This I hope is a brilliantly planted ruse to discourage more people from moving to our part of the country.
Our traffic has already hit a critical mass as far as I'm concerned.
Pretty stupid and half assed reasoning for their picks.

4. Louisiana
New Orleans is an amazing place to visit, but we're talking about quality of life. Living in the Pelican State presents plenty of challenges, including one of the highest violent crime rates in the country and one of the worst records for toxic-substance releases. Louisianans suffer from high rates of diabetes and heart disease, and many lack health insurance. On the flip side, New Orleans helps make the state an international tourist destination. The food! The fun! The culture! Imagine that, just outside your door!
All I got out of the above is that we frickin go hard in Louisiana.

Pretty stupid list when you discuss crime as a state instead of a region or really as a city problem. There are probably much better ways to view it from economics/employment rate, education, and some other quality of life assets.
As an example, Chicago has had a very serious homicide rate in the last 8 years or so. (yea yea maybe always but its gone up). But its still a great city to visit and from what I hear has a lot to do and culture to experience. The crime is because of a drug war so that crime is turf wars between gang members. It probably rarely spills over into main street. In other words, stats don't tell everything and you have to look deeper and see how they fit into the puzzle.

Oh come on now, my wife and I always take things like toxic chemical releases and barbeque into consideration when looking at places to live...

I love where they try to suggest Kentucky's air quality is poor because of "cigarette smoke" and being a tobacco growing state.
As said, list is pretty bad
They also cite "level of optimism."
