I interviewed online for this position. I’m not desperate since I already have a job. I thought I did well. I join and there are 5 people. All of them have their video off while I’m on video. I would go couple of mins with no one saying anything and there was no intro. I almost wanted to stop in the middle. It was the most uncomfortable meeting I was in. Is it unprofessional to hide behind cameras? It felt weird and there was no small talk.

Show your pecker to show confidence and assertiveness.

That’s when you say “oh cool I’ll turn my camera off too” then act like it’s off (but really still on) and start unzipping your pants.

See if anyone pipes up or if you’re about to fall into an Aggie trap.

Why would you join an unknown meeting with video enabled? That's a boomer mistake.

Probably taking notes. Not unusual for pauses.

Don't worry, we aren't going to offer you the fry cook position anyway. During the times you thought it was an awkward length between questions was because we were trying to think of questions that wouldn't make you look even dumber than you are.

Why wouldn’t I want someone to see me if I’m interviewing to work with them? I want to know the people I’m going to work with and if they aren’t aholes. It’s for a TECH Engineering job

It’s highly unprofessional in my opinion. Our leaders are required to be on camera unless you’re traveling or in an unusual circumstance. We definitely don’t interview people off camera. Same industry. Day to day, I require my teams to be on camera. It’s a collaborative industry.

I had an internal interview where no one turned their cameras on. The hiring manager’s boss asked, “so…cameras or no?”. The hiring manager said, “nah we all know what we look like”

I was in a similar situation in a job interview, where I had my camera on and the two people who were interviewing me had their camera's off.

They reminded me that mine was on, there's was off and then told me I could turn mine off as well.
