You can't overcome the Wyoming loss in today's environment without long term consequences

This is what Odom was building towards from 2016-2018.

- There was a national narrative that had us as the second best team in the east, ready to compete with UGA after an 8-0 start.
- We had all eyes on us with Kelly choosing the Mizzou Tigers over an Auburn team who would be in the opening weekend spotlight.
- The national media following our team closely to see if we really were ready to compete so they can follow this years Kentucky stroryline from the beginning.

Its all gone. We had momentum that could help with recruiting and overall fan enthusiasm that came to a halt. With a December signing day at play, this loss does nothing but hurts the narrative of a coach installing a process and culture of winning and working towards competing for championships as our coach states when he is in front of a microphone.

If you are a 4 star recruit, why come here? You don't play in any marquee out of conference games for national exposure and you have a coach who has a record of 2-17 against winning FBS programs.

Sure you can. Lots of teams blow games that they shouldn’t early in the season. A few years ago Virginia Tech lost to an FCS team and played in a New Years bowl game.

Mike Leach has a couple losses to FCS teams, and still got to 9 wins.

There’s tons of other examples

It certainly puts a stain on whatever we may accomplish, but after a few days to cool down...you are correct.

How poorly the defense played doesn’t inspire much hope though

Future success is determined by talent and developing that talent.

Leach is a good coach but has taken advantage of a conference that has taken a nose dive, just look at Pac 12 teams on the line of scrimmage. Virginia Tech still had a full 6 months for recruiting after that loss, we only realistically have 2 months to retain and attract talent.

8 wins with losses to Georgia, Florida, USC, and Kentucky does not help achieve the future championship aspirations Barry Odom has set as a precedent.

The season isn’t completely ruined...yet.

What the loss does is put a monumental hill in front of them that must be climbed that wasn’t there before. Now they need to win the next 6-7 games without dropping any to prove they are a good team because the narrative is completely different.

If they go on to win 9 games, it will be a good season, but leave questions about the long term future with a coach that can not prepare his football team.

If they win 10, which is now very doubtful, then the Wyoming games becomes a fluke first game frickup.

They just have to win and correct the mistakes and play sound football.

I don’t know if any of that happens, and I’m not confident it will or predicting that it does. Just say that’s where we are now

I get the short term picture. This could still be a "successful" season with 9 wins.

I am trying to recognize the long term disadvantages associated with this loss.

- No positive airtime during "College Football Live" or other ESPN shows. This impacts fans expectations and overall perspective across other fan bases and recruits
- The narrative of us being good and beating teams like South Carolina during week three can be shifted as two average/bad teams playing each other
- Recruiting impact to get the Doyle's and Mannings back in the fold against other bigger programs as we show no real progress. In the end we can get to November without beating a team with a winning record, again.

No, but the preseason hype had us expecting a pony for Christmas. When we suddenly realized we'd gotten a slinky and a pair of socks, well...

There’s no long term negative implications for a single early season loss. If the Wyoming loss turns into a 6-7 loss season, then there will be negative consequences.

Jalen Logan-Redding is committing today, it’s expected to be Mizzou.

He’d done this every year.
And we’re still mildly surprised.

He’ll kill home attendance. Hell, we may even lose to WVU next week and still make 6 wins.

But it will hurt recruiting and all the momentum he’s built to this point. Which he’s really, really good at.

I feel like more than half the fan base is saying, look at the schedule, it'll be another mid season turn around if things go south. I just don't see it happening again, not with Odom at the top.

He let a DC that is absolute dog shite as a position coach, remove a LB from the front 7 in the top LOS league in the country. MU was one of the best run defenses in the country last year and they just allowed 300 yds on the ground to a fricking group of 5 school.

This 4-2-5 shite was terrible 3 years ago and he let his DC tube the team yet again. Yes, this defense works when it is coached well. Walters isnt that guy and now BO is going to have to step in and fix it after wasting an entire year.

frick that. His belief in Walters is completely unfounded and will be his down fall.

This isn’t going to be a “single early season loss.” Where have you been the last three years?

You are right if this loss turns into several, which I stated already. Then there will be issues from it. But if the team rights the ship against WVU then there won’t be.

That horseshite Walters helped put on the field gave a entire clip of ammo for negative recruiting. And before you mention the line play, the whole thing depends on Walters position group being sound. What a fricking joke.

So when Logan-Redding commits today, what’s that mean?

Pre Wyoming: A good team about to play thru an easy schedule.

Post Wyoming: A bad team about to play other bad teams. Even if we win, it'll still be us sucking less than the other guy. And after Georgia eviserates us . . .

The offense still has a chance to be extremely good and did enough to win that game.

The defense has no hope while Walters is on the staff.

So if BO not fired at end of year from poor defense then he must replace Walters? If he refuse then BO be fired?

I don’t believe this is a bad team. Bad defense yes.

I think the offense will be quite good still. Maybe the defense can progress to nearly passable. It’s seemed to do so the past couple of years.
