I guess i misremembered. Looks like it was only 2 games over that stretch that Perkins played more.
I still think Brown and Harrison will have a chance to be really good in that role. Both have the size and speed to excel there.

No, it was one game.

That list didn’t include the bowl game

The bowl game where the pokes ran outside zone and counter trap straight at Perkins with a true Fr RB for 8 yds a carry? That really helps that trend you were talking about.

We are far from the only team that runs a 4-2-5 as its base.
Do you just not like the defense or the players we have to put in it?

It’s just because of Walters.
Mizzou needs to upgrade its defensive talent. Elite SEC defenses have NFL talent in the back 7.

Sure. Now we do. We didn’t need to before the Wyoming game.

Shouldn’t have needed the talent upgrade, but from the DL to S all positions took a beating in that game.
Personally I like the Saftey recruits in the 19 class. I think all 4 have a great chance at being good and being key players on good defenses as upperclassmen. All are great athletes.

This defense came about because it allowed a team to keep 6 in the box and spill the play to safeties sitting on the deep hashes closing on the run from quarters coverage. RPO triggers those defenders and the offense then hits them in the space they vacated. It isn't designed to work with hesitation, which negates the speed the scheme supposedly floods the field with. The fact that the linemen get 3 yds to block in a RPO on makes the conflict more severe and is a large reason for the wide open WRs/TEs on the seam.
If you are going to make it work, you really need a LB body that can cover some ground so that being conflicted between the pass and run isn't much of a strain. He also needs to play with a little hesitation to muddy the QB's read and then work off OL/TE blocks vs the run. Lee was solid and Brian Odom was his position coach. Perkins and Oliver aren't that kind of player. They get engulfed and rode out of the play. Walters being a poor position coach only exacerbates the issue.
Walters made the call and Odom let him. A very foolish decision.

No way does Walters make a change in defense without BO being on board.
The scheme works. May be a question on if they have the talent to run it or any scheme really well. Could also be a question on the entire staffs ability to teach any scheme. Since none have been good since 2015.
Against Wyoming all 3 levels of the defense were really bad in the second quarter and not very good in the third. The 1st and 4th they were mostly good. The offense was pretty much the same.

Thanks for saying exactly what I said.

There's all conference talent at DT, MLB, and CB. Supposedly the best pair of athletes at safety since Brown and Moore. Now they all suck? LMAO.
I'm done responding to your goalpost moving shite.
Carry on.

The all conference level talent at DT and MLB has poor games against Wyoming. So did the safeties. Especially Ulmer who only played something like 15 snaps. Yes the safeties weren’t good either.
It’s just interesting that the run D was really good last season and that was all on Haley. Then Wyoming runs all over Mizzou and its all on Walters. I know you know way too much about football to believe both those statements.

The way you broke that down leads me to ask...is the 4-2-5 a variant of the Bears Buddy Ryan 4-3 defense they called the "46"? (Yes I know the 46 was called that because of a player number, not because it was a 4-2 defense)
If I remember, Ryan designed the 42, to overwhelm the run game, very similar to what you describe in Mizzous 4-2-5.

18 and 21 sucked arse too, whoever they were.

Buddy Ryan's defense was the 46 defense with six men on the line, 4 in line technique and two LBs. The interior Oline was covered making any trap or power block difficult and the Jack and Charlie LBs lined up on the strong side of the set and zone blitzed. Altogether different animal in terms of technique and personnel.
