Serious question: Why aren't YOU excited/positive regarding the upcoming season

I peruse a couple different boards, I'm on Twitter. Feel like I have a pretty good gauge of the fanbase. There is a very large number of our fans that are more concerned with when we can fire Odom than the upcoming season and I can't figure out why.

We had two SR players come back that look like first round picks. We have a Heisman candidate at QB. If you look at the preseason all SEC teams, Mizzou is very well represented in all of them. In short, it looks like this team has a chance to be pretty damn good but there is a very low amount of excitement around the program from its own fanbase.

Even if you legitimately dislike BO and think he is going to fail wouldn't you prefer to be wrong? I just feel Mizzou fans as a whole are lacking energy and I really can't figure it out.

Not calling anyone out, just looking for serious discussion as to why there isn't the buzz that there really should be.

I am excited. I truly think this defense and Drew Lock only have the Bama trip to worry about. QB play rules college football. Combined with our DL, i'm expecting a 2007 type of year.

I am excited for the upcoming season. I think this team has a lot of potential, and a very high ceiling.

We've got a good run game, very experienced O-Line, good receiving corps, and very good QB. Offense should be very good if Dooley has them in the right direction.

Defense has a ton to be happy about. The interior of the D-line will be beastly and is deep. Linebacker has a lot of returning talent and should be a strength. If the DE and secondary can step up, find some answers and be serviceable, we should have a great shot at upsetting some big teams we face.

I'm not so concerned with firing BO, I don't dislike him and hope he succeeds. But, here is my healthy skepticism. This team hasn't beaten a good team yet. Any decent team really. While there was progress last year, this team has about the same chance of repeating a 7-5 result as it does overachieving in my opinion. The schedule is more difficult than last year. I don't know what Dooley will bring.

I suspect the general attitude is a "wait and see" mentality given the last few years. I know some want BO gone, I'll give him the chance to prove himself.

We'll know a lot more after the Purdue game, and that game may set the trend for the rest of the season.

I honestly thing that the Georgia game could be close or an upset. They are replacing a lot on D, and its early enough that it's not an auto L.

SC lost a lot on D also and I think that is a great chance for Mizzou to have a big win, especially with the bye week before.

It's the beginning of July and there just hasn't been enough success the last few years to justify a "fanbase" to be excited at this point in the year.

I agree with you; the D will dictate the season

Another thing, there hasn't been much info coming out of the program. No articles, or quotes that show promise for the question marks, and recruiting isn't giving anyone reason to cheer at this point. So, other than what you already stated, there isn't something out there in the ether that should spark a mid-summer explosion of excitement.

It was odd, the loss to texas popped the balloon that was expanding all season.

I truly think basketball took a lot out of any hype going into this season.

Its also only July and I think once august hits, we'll see the excitement pick up again.

But I do agree that it has been rather quite. We have maybe the best defensive player in the past 10 years, the best qb in the last 10 years, best TE in the last 10 years, and maybe even the best RB due in the last 10 years.

The problem is this group of players and coaches hasn't shown they can beat a good team. I hope that changes this year, but we'll see...

They took steps last season, Purdue was the only loss to a team that Mizzou should have beaten.

The next step is too beat teams that should beat Mizzou.

That's mostly it combined with the normal apprehension of being a Mizzou fan trying to get over the hump.

Obviously hoping for the best and think we have a strong shot in most of our games

Agree with this. Had we waxed Texas (and we probably should have) there would be a lot more hype.

The thing that really got me with the Texas game was that the Longhorns were missing at least half their team and our offense was really manhandled. Regardless of the final score our defense played well against their inept offense. I looked at some videos of our games last year and our secondary scares the heck out of me.

I think our offense will be entertaining, but I'm worried about the defense. The defense is bad at pursuit and gap control.

The Texas game really doesn't bother me to be honest. It was just a weird game. Their punter kept burying us inside the five time after time. Couple of those bounce into the endzone instead of checking up and it's probably a different game.

3 turnovers are tough to overcome, regardless of the opponent.

I'm not sure but I think it has many factors.

1) The texas bowl loss. That was pathetic.
2) Underwhelming 10th choice OC hire.
3) Last offseason the team regressed terribly. Concern it will happen again.
4) No signs of being competitive on a high level last year. If we had pummeled texas, probably a different story right now.
5) Botched SEZ renovation. If that was done right, I think more would be excited in general but it is going to look terrible when done.
6) Basketball fizzled.
7) Recruiting is going worse than just about anyone could expect. Home state kids just aren't interested.
8) Games will be in a construction site this year. Small crowds are never all that much to look forward to.
9) The AD doesn't seem to have a pulse at all when it comes to being THE state school of Missouri. There is no pride or passion coming out of the AD.
10) Koolaid drinking local media is non-existent.

I can keep going but the bottom line is there needs to be a galvanizing event to ratchet up the interest and excitement and I don't really see one coming up other than beating UGA or Bama this year.

Yikes..it's going to be ok buddy. Promise, lol.

I get the sentiment but I'm pretty confident this team is going to have a good year. Winning cures all

^^ This.

It’s why the Purdue game is so important. Win, and even win big, and it sets the tone going into SEC play and wipes away the tears from last years loss.

Lose, and it kills momentum for the team, sets up a bad course going into the Georgia game, and loses the fans completely

I think it is going to be a great year to be a Tiger fan.

Do I think they will win out? No but I think 8 Wins is doable for this team.

They need to start hot and stay hot.

I don't expect great interest in the team to start the year, but my hope is that if we get off to a good start that the fans will respond. This program desperately needs a solid backing at it would be a shame if they didn't get it.

A win over Georgia sure would be nice wouldn't it...

I will be right there with you on the BO railroad if we win the first 3. I had my hopes before last season and got kicked in the balls at the begining. I will wear my nutcup until we beat purdue and wyoming.
