Very good coach. Not sure he was a "great" coach. I'll just leave it at that.

Gary was a great coach who lost to pussy in a very public fashion.

Pussy is almost undefeated. So I get it.

But 2009 Pinkel would have never let 2015 Mizzou happen.

A truly no win situation, side with the players and fans are pissed, try to force the player's hand and get killed in the media and players jumping ship PLUS fricking recruiting for a decade at least.

There was a right choice in that. Notice that both results involved killing recruiting and the program for a period. Only one though would have maintained fan support and not thrown the university under the bus while at the same time calling all alumni racists. Taking the high road would have had a much faster recovery time.

I agree. But 2009 Pinkel doesn’t let it get to that stage.

Ok. Does 2009 Pinkel get us to the 2013/14 Championship games? He himself admitted that he chilled out quite a bit over his tenure.

Probably win the SECCG vs Auburn with 2009 Pinkel.

Why? Would we have even made it to ATL with 2009 Pinkel? I remember during that 2013 season Pinkel himself admitted that he needed to change, and he did, and we won the division. 2009 Pinkel still would have let Steck run a 3 man front. Hell, 2009 Pinkel let Yost throw the ball 80 % of the time vs. Navy's 2 man front for a loss. Makes no sense. Sorry.

From 1984 to 2002 we had 2 winning seasons 97 and 98 with 73 wins. The next 18 years we had 4 losing seasons and around 140 wins.

He changed the identity of a program and brought fans back and excited them. He started making in roads and tried to build bonds in the St Louis area, KC area, and throughout the state. What he started 20 years ago will probably take another 20 to get these area’s we lost from 1984 to 2002.

He wasn’t just a coach he became the ambassador for the school. He became the person that when people thought about the University of Missouri they thought about him. It was no longer Norm Stewart it was Gary Pinkel and for a lot of people it still is. Most coaches would have left after a few years for a better job, but he stayed.

That is a HoF pedigree. He may not have won a National Championship, but he changed a loser P5 program into a winning program.

Since we joined the SEC 6 teams have more regular seasons at .500 or better than Missouri. We are not at the bottom we are in the middle of the best conference in football with 2 division titles. Out of the 14 teams we are 1 of 6 to win a division title and only Georgia, Florida, and Alabama have more appearances in the conference Championship game.

Pinkel took Mizzou from a loser program into a team that can compete in the best conference in college football.

I know Gary still lives in Columbia, aside from his foundation, does he have any role in football operations? Or is he completely hands off?

Pinkel definitely was the best coach we’ve had since Dan Devine. Maybe ever.

I wish his career would have ended in a better fashion.
